Used SL 500 Pricing?

Hi I am looking into a car for my friend. He wants an 03 SL500 with low miles (under 20k). He will probably be buying from a dealer, most price guides are saying around $74,000. Do u think this is accurate or will he be able to find the car and pay significantly less? Would it be unrealistic to get this type of vehicle at under $70k?
Thanks in advance,
MarK.

I haven't seen any low mileage '03s anywhere near $74. In san diego, cars @ dealers can be had between $80 and $85k well optioned. Also, I would not buy a car that was not certified.

Ok cool bro thanks for the info, Ill keep it in mind. One question though as its an 03, why is it important to get certified as 03's will still have a warranty right, even if bought private?

CPO car warranties are tranferable and extend the original warranty to 100k miles + add time to the the balance of the mfg warranty and you can still buy an extended warranty on top of that. Plus you get dealer support. In many ways, the CPO warranty is better than the original warranty. I just feel safer with a certified car from a dealer unless the private party car was bought as a CPO car.

I had my CPO '03 launch designo about 60 days. The car had that designo cat **** smell. So I dumped it. I'm much happier with my CL500. Besides, my wife has an SL600 and we don't need two two-seaters.

Locate the brokers who absorb the lease ending autos

Keep looking. You should be able to find a 2003 for your target price, but forget about getting it with less than 20,000 miles. Jillions of these are coming up for sale as the typical two year lease has run and the supply outstrips demand.

'03 SL500
Try looking on Ebay

I found my '03 SL500 with 21k miles on Ebay. No accidents/flood damage/etc.
The 'Buy It Now' price was $72k.
I contacted the dealer directly and negotiated the price to $66k (roughly $10k less than blue book).
I highly recommend contacting a seller directly and trying to work out a good price and of course getting a carfax report and dealer inspection to ensure that you're really getting a good deal.
I couldn't be happier with the car and have yet to see a better price anywhere.

Good Luck!

Hire an experienced BMZ autobroker and you should be able to get a 2003 SL500 $5k to $ 10K back of wholesale blue book before the $500 you pay to the broker. Go to a broker that has access to the exclusive MBZ dealer auctions. The MBZ auctions tend to be better cars than those at high line auctions. Just think someone elses lemon can be your apple.
