Age 65; top speed classified: first car, '54 Chevy Belaire. As Jimmy Buffett says, 'kids today pay more for a pair of sneakers than I paid for my first car'.
It's an old thread, but a good thread!

Age 63. First car was a VW Beetle with auto electric clutch.
They only made them for 2 years for some reason.
Consider the SL as my personal time machine.

I'll turn 70 this summer. Two years ago I traded my SL for an AMG SLS. My daily driver is an S Coupe. The last time I posted here, I was 66.

I bought my 2017 SL450 to celebrate my 70th birthday.
I don't feel so old anymore.

Were you 40 or 50 back when you got that 52 Ford? As well, did you buy it new, or was it 40 years old at the time and you're really only 24 years old? Originally Posted by tandan

Ok, I'm 53. My wife is the driving force behind the Mercedes convertibles, but I do enjoy the feeling with the top down and your left hand up on the side of the windshield frame. The coolest one was a 96 SL600 but her current ride is a 2005 CLK500.
My first "car" was a '71 Chevy Cheyenne and my second was a '72 GTO, so you get the difference in our tastes...

44 and just bought my first SL. So far out of all the Benzs I've had this is my favorite. Although, my S is a close second place with all the gadgets it had. 😀

Long time VW fan and come from a Golf GTI. I always wanted an SL so a few months ago I just decided to get one. Found a fantastic 07 SL550 with 22,000 miles on it.
When the top is down and my cigar is lit I feel like a million bucks.

I'm 51. Turned in my SL550 last year when the lease was up. Now in an AMG GTS. I think I preferred the SL to be honest. Almost as fast and more refined.
Not to mention much smaller inside. 6'3" and not enough leg room in the GTS for me. That REALLY disappointed me as I doubt the vert will be any better.

All I had to do was sit in one (AMG-GTS) in the dealer showroom to know it wasn't for me. The owners confirm the ride is also harsher than the SL.Originally Posted by BigHat
