Michelin VS Michelin For The SL....

I find 4 Michelin type tires listed for my 2017 SL 450 and am confused.
Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+
Michelin Pilot Sport 3
Michelin Pilot Super Sport
Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2

Any recommendations for someone who lives in the Deep South. Performance with cushiest ride....
Thanks....

I just put the A/S 3+ on my car. This is the second set I have purchased, as I put them on the 2013 SL I had. Much nicer ride than the run flats. If I am not mistaken all of the other models you list will give a harsher ride with more noise, but I'm no authority.

I swapped out the run flats for Michelin A/S 3+ also and it made a big difference in ride quality.

Only MBs - the best or nothing
Best ride:

1. Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+
2. Michelin Pilot Sport 3
2. Michelin Pilot Super Sport
4. Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2

Best handling is the opposite order to the above.

A/S 3+ is the tire of choice per OP's requirements. I however, chose PSS due to an almost as good ride as 3+, while offering clearly better handling than 3+ (note: 3+ is the best handling A/S tire, however Conti DWS 06 is arguably a better riding A/S tire than 3+, so maybe OP should look into DWS 06 as well).

Luckily, my used 231 came with 18-inch Twin Spoke wheels and new Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ Tires.

I'm enjoying the ride!

I have A/S 3+ on the SL now but at 18k miles the rear tires are at 3/32” so I thought I might ask.....

I went with the Sport A/S 3+ and really enjoy the ride quality, noise reduction over the Continentals, and the handling. Will do the same thing next go round unless Michelin comes up with a better A/S tire. Also, here in Tennessee we get some good rains, and the tires are quite good in the rain for a low aspect ratio tire.

Stream, So you ditched the run flats on your new SL though it has the ABC system?

Yes. My SL will never venture out of an area where there is convenient, flat bed tow service. Should I happen to get a flat, I’ll just have her towed to the dealer or a tire shop or home. I will probably get a TireFit Kit as well. That said, the car did not ride bad on the run flats, but it is even better with the new tires. More compliant and more hushed.

The PS Cup 2 is a high performance tire best used on cars that see some track days. They come stock on the Corvette Z06 with Z07 track package. A very poor choice for any driving in the rain.

If performance and style is your priority, simply nothing beats the Pilot Sport 4s!
If comfort is your priority, then go for the A/S 3+

If one is running 19” wheels and wishes to stay with the factory recommended tire sizes, then you can’t go 4S, as it is not made in the rear tire size.

Thanks for all the great reply’s. The reason I asked is because I have known for a long time the SL is my all time get away car and the fact MB has decided to go with a 4 seat soft top I decided to upgrade to a 2019 SL550 while there are still some with great options available. Bought another Cardinal Red that unlike my 2017 has Nappa Leather, ABC with Curve and Magic Sky.
Temporarily I will use the Continental run flats as they are quite smooth with ABC. On the way home from the dealership I took 3 curves posted at 45 at a bit over 70mph and the curve function is quite phenomenal though it gives one a strange feeling when the SL doesn’t roll/tilt like my 2017 always did...

Yeah, mine’s been sitting in the garage, as we have had some hot weather as well. This next week, we’re back in the 70’s and I’ll be going for a drive.

I run them on my OEM 5-spoke 19" wheels but upsized to 295's and it looks AMAZING! The 295s give it a wide, aggressive look, and fill up the wheel arches very, very nicely.

Beautiful car Utopia! The color is somewhat unique - I'd bet you're likely the only one in your area with that color and has ABC to boot!.
