There's one on eBay for $245, but the spring is broken. Hmmmm, sounds like a common problem.
He verified that it it is the Mercedes extended warranty. Dealer is still claiming it isn't covered. He is appealing to the owner. Thanks for the replies, they have been helpful.

$2400 is one zero off from the $240 this repair should cost ☹️

Your hinges need to be replaced or repaired. I believe there is a video detailing the process on here.
https://www.youtube.com/user/NorseVikiing/videos

next time I’m in the EPC I’ll upload the procedure from MBZ
Thank you. I will forward this to him. He has priced the parts and looked at some tutorial video in case he has to tackle it himself. Situation seems so unnecessary..

Attached is the WIS section for R&R of center console/armrest.
May help him if he tackles the job.

Thank you. I'll send it to him. He's not making much headway with the dealer so it looks like either an independent garage or he he tackles it himself.

The WIS procedure pictures look confusing if you've not done this before. I removed my armrest assembly when installing the CarPlay unit and running cables to the AUX port. Removing the armrest is about a 10 minute job. I haven't read the step-by-step instructions yet, but it's not a tough job.

I agree, I think the videos I linked are more helpful. The WIS section is for R&R of the whole console. Typically when they don’t have a breakout section for R&R of a part, it should be pretty self explanatory on removal. I think last time I ordered one of those armrests it was around $350. OP’s friend should check his VIN before ordering part to confirm fitment.

I have Part # 231 680 79 01 9H15 (Black)

(edit). Looks like about $390.00 or so now. https://www.buymercedespartsnow.com/...iABEgKckPD_BwE

Thanks for the input and help. He is getting nowhere with the dealer and EW. He has found a local independent and is planning to take it there for the repair. I've forwarded the info provided here and although he feels he could do it, doesn't want to take it on.

I would certainly seek a refund on the EW and talk to Trent at @Highline-Autos and see what he can offer. Some plans have a wait period, but I think Fidelity has immediate coverage. Not sure any plan he has will cover this particular problem since it is pre-existing, but if this is just a sample of the kind of service the MB EW plan gives, he may really want to shop around.
