I'm with you. However, someone will pony up and drop the cash for it. I've never understood paying over sticker and never wanted any car that badly. We love our SL550 and would only change for a newer model if we happened to find one that checked all the boxes. Reading the threads here it's clear there are plenty that disagree and will chase after the new version. To each their own.

And for only a quarter of a million dollars, you can own your very own AMG designed manual windscreen. Stop the car, get out, take the windscreen out, fold it up, open the trunk and hope there is room for it, put it in the trunk, shut the trunk, get back in the car and drive away.

What a great improvement of the old out dated models that had a button to push.

I know there are people here that don't care about money they lose. And if so, that sticker is a good place for them. To each their own. It ain't my money they will part with.

I do like the new SL but there is no way on this Earth, or any other that I would pay those prices. I'll just keep mine and maybe one day buy a facelift model with lower miles than what I have, or will have by the time I am ready to upgrade. Might just keep mine forever..

I'd rather have a 2006 Silver over black Mercedes Benz SLR w/ 10k miles

My feelings after seeing the car in person, is that I am amazingly UNDERWHELMED! I had thought that once I saw the real car, I would swoon, but the exact opposite happened: I HATE IT! I would not trade my 2019 straight across for this new car, if I had to keep the one I chose. Honestly, the new car did NOTHING for me. And, after experiencing the huge touchscreen in my 2022 S580, I cannot even imagine dealing with that POS with the top down.

My personal feeling is that MB has lost their way. I do realize that I am an old guy, lamenting the loss of familiar and comfortable designs, but I am also no one’s fool and the new cars coming out of MB are leaving me absolutely COLD, with zero interest. I love our 2019 SL450. I love our 2019 E450 Wagon. I absolutely HATE my 2022 S580. I’ve never said that about another car I have owned and I’ve had 100.

When that magnificent folding hard top was lost, MB lost me forever. In my totally perfect 2017 SL-550, I shall ride off into my final sunset; with the top stored in the down position.

When did you get that? How do you like it? How about an in depth review over on W223?

The Lucid would be comparable to the EQS. I have a neighbor who has both so I will ask him.

Maybe the media news, “expert” reviewers should have looked at this photo before they collectively panned the subjective appearance of the R231. I’m old enough to remember the same comments when the R129s came out. The difference was there was no internet, so everyone forgot…
And now, if you ask the media “influencers”, what their favorite SL is, many will say it’s the R129.

There are many instances of controversial avant-garde designs in architecture, art and design that the masses finally appreciated after it had aged. (like fine wine)

Remember that guy named Van Gogh? I think he never sold a painting either….

I don't understand (and it could just be me lol) but why is Mercedes still calling that car a Roadster? Mercedes emailed me yesterday evening to introduce me to the new "Roadster"

road·ster
/ˈrōdstər/

noun
  1. an open-top automobile with two seats.

Obviously marketing. Mercedes like many other luxury (or perceived) brands have diluted and altered meanings to their own benefit. As for this forum, don't be surprised if someone chimes in and states "if Mercedes calls it a roadster it's a roadster".

LOL not obvious to me. I thought that perhaps they had a different meaning of Roadster in Germany than in the USA. Any car maker can call a car whatever they like, however sometimes there may be other reasons for strange names, or name changes. For example, I am middle aged and throughout my entire life until the last few years auto makers and my self knew coupes as certain 2 door cars. Now there are 4 dour coupes which doesn't make sense to me. No matter how many fancy changes they do a 4 door vehicle is not a coupe. Well, its a beautiful outside this morning so I guess I will pull my SL truck around for a wash lol.. Some name changes are silly IMO.

My Ford Expedition SL Roadster needs a wash as well. Maybe with the sunroof, I could call it a Cabriolet. MB can put what they want on it and some fan boys will drink that kool-aid down to n the last drop.

We have the last of the MB SL roadsters. They quit making them.

It is a marketing ploy. MB is trying to maintain some sort of link to the iconic SL name tag and calling it a roadster helps with that. It also is an attempt to differentiate from all the other FOUR SEATERS THEY MAKE... past and present. It helps them get the ridiculous price.

R231 SL63 & R129 SL500
I honestly don’t know why it matters as to whether Mercedes calls the R232 a “roadster” or not, and I also don’t agree that they’re ruining a long standing tradition. The R107 and R129 SL models were certainly referred to as roadsters yet a full back seat was a factory option in Europe for both generations. Only in the US were those cars “true” 2-seat roadsters. So you could certainly argue that the R232 is a return to the SL roots.

That said, I don’t plan to buy an R232 anytime soon, especially given the ridiculous pricing, lack of a hardtop option, etc.
