Kinda makes sense that MB is slow to release for older models and perhaps won't release any newer mapsets. I guess I can always use my phone and Google maps if it becomes a big issue. If they haven't released a new mapset for my car since Nov 2019 that doesn't look good for the future.

I am a newbie to Mercedes and this map updates discussion. I have read this thread closely and have some dumb questions.
My car (which is my first Mercedes - a 2015 SL400 - that I love to drive), has only one USB port, and that is in the center console. Is that the USB I would use to update my maps? I watched a YouTube video and it looked like the update thumb drive was being inserted into the head unit of the dash. Confusing.
I ask because on the head unit in my car there is a slot for a memory card, but no USB port, and that seems the most likely location to make changes via software updates to the the head unit, ie, map data.
Has anyone actually purchased a map update (on a USB thumb drive or memory card) from either BENZNINJA or MBNAVUPDATE.COM and successfully updated map data?
Lastly, it appears that my car is NTG 4.7, and the latest maps are actually 2019 data? That is already 4+ years old data. Ugh.
I don't want to attempt the RoadTop installation, although linking AppleMaps via my iPhone would be great. I lack the technical skill to do this myself.
Thanks for insights and suggestions on my questions above, and know that I have learned a great deal about my new toy from this group!!

2. Yes, you use the USB port in the center console.
3. The latest is version is Version 20.0, dated 11/14/2019.
4. Have you read through the thread Step by Step CarPlay Install sticky at the top of this forum? It seems daunting, but you can probably do it.

I can't say it took 2 hours, but I do remember having to start the engine and even drive around a bit for it to finish up.

I have my SL on a tender whenever it is parked in the garage. I need to confirm that the ignition can be turned on and kept on without someone sitting in the driver's seat for an extended time.

Success! I purchased the latest mapset(V20) from an ebay seller. It arrived in about 3 days on a USB stick with good directions. It took about 45 mintuest to install. I did have to restart one time. Ended up driving around as I was afraid to turn off the engine while it was installing and didn't feel like sitting in the car idling for a long time. Bottom line, it worked.

Assuming that I have to order the correct update for the specific model of NAV that's installed in my 2017 SL 450, how can I find out which model/version of firmware/hardware my car has? When I bought my car in 2020, the dealer had ostensibly updated the maps. From what I gather here, my maps may already be the latest version available. I'll have to check on this stuff...

I have a VISA dispute in with MBNAVUPDATE right now. Been in contact, said they'd send a USB when I couldn't get a Windows PC, then didn't, then said they'd refund, didn't, then said they credited back my credit card with the refund. Didn't. This has been going on two months. I'd avoid this one.
