Update for MB Maps

Has anybody used the service all over Facebook that offers a map update for $99 via a download or USB stick?

I have a 2015 SL400, and the navigation program is so old that my 5 year old house doesn't exist because the street wasn't in place then. As a result, I can't set Navi to HOME because the program thinks I'm homeless...
They advertise like crazy, but there are never any reviews of comments. Has anyone done this? I'd love an updated map (and whatever other things might come with the upgrade) but I really don't want to further enrich the dealer.

Thoughts?

Dave

no experience with that map update service you talked about but trying setting your home (or what the navigation system considers as out of bounds or blank space) as your coordinates.

My local dealer occasionally does deals where they offer map updates for £99. I'd rather pay that than save a bit of cash by using a product bought off Facebook etc.

I’ve done the update to both my cars buying the map software off of eBay. It was not pirated software, I just wanted to do it myself. Be forewarned, it can be finicky and a pain to get it to complete correctly. I have since added a RoadTop CarPlay unit and now use Waze or Apple Maps. (See the sticky at the top of this forum about adding CarPlay or search YouTube.)

It’s his business and he has reasons for not publishing the price online in a forum. If you are genuinely interested, submit a request like he said.

The other thing to think about is the total cost of taking your car to the dealer for a map update or having someone do it remotely. Here in the US, there is the price for the software, the cost for dealer labor, and the time involved to take your car to the dealership. Personally, I find my time to take the car to the dealer to be the deciding factor if the other costs are the same or within the same ballpark.

Anything written here stands through time like it was written in stone... and prices can fluctuate.

So you think in 10 years time sometime may come back to this thread and say "hey, a decade ago you said the price is only £99 how come it's more expensive now?"!
I just don't understand what the difference is between giving a price here and me sending in a form except with the form the vendor then had my e mail address to spam me constantly with offers! Not saying benzninja would do that but it has happened every single time with every other vendor that I've asked for a price from. Now if he came back and said it was cheaper than £99 I'd probably be more interested but I won't hold my breath.......

So, use an email alias service like SimpleLogin and create a unique email address for each site you register with. Then you can turn an alias off when you no longer want to receive email (or spam). Or, take your car to the dealer and get hammered with junk mail every other week.

I guess they should also account for inflation a decade later.

Thankfully you could unsubscribe to that marketing right? Although I am aware that dealerships sometimes sell our personal data without our consent (or maybe they do have our consent signed when we purchased our cars, another forum member for example automatically got enrolled in to monthly Carfax status/reports (I guess the good thing is that it is free in that case), while my personal experience is SirusXM keeps spamming me with offers)

We do not keep any info and so we do not share either. never did in the past either.
The reputation of BenzNinja systems, and privacy is flawless since ever. probably the only fully secured system on the market (not really the case with the chinese junk all over the net).

Curious how come some say only usb 2.0 and some say recommend usb 2.0? What about usb 3.0, and then there is FAT32, exFAT and NTFS requirements.

That is a minimum higher works fine

it's not a write rule, it's a read-rule for the car
with a USB 1 it would probably work but take 6 hours to load on the car

Thank you for the info benzninja. I've asked twice now whether your price is cheaper than the £99 dealer cost and as you haven't replied I'll assume that you are more expensive.

The time required by the dealer is two minutes to plug in the thumb drive, enter the update code to start the update, and leaving the car running for the 20 minutes or so. I made a point of telling my service advisor and they just charged me for the software--no labor.
