Tune and Full Service scheduled at Renntech
Appointment next Wednesday for full service including all fluids, air filters etc etc. Want to get the car in tip top for their high performance tune which is now 540+ hp and 706+ ftlbs torque. Going to transform my car into an absolute beast.

I absolutely will. It is a 2hr drive back to Miami from Renntech so I will get some decent seat time same day.

Lol, I am planning on getting there by 11am so hopefully it won't take more than 3-4 hrs for everything. If it takes longer, then I will go visit my aunt and uncle who have a house in Stuart, FL like 10 min from Renntech. I will wait until after rush hour to come back if that is the case.

So I have good news and really bad news. I got the tune and service done at Renntech last week. It was an absolute monsoon so I was not at all able to experience the increased power and torque with the exception of a couple of 2-3 sec pulls. It was immediately evident that the car was an absolute beast. That was the good news, now on to the bad. I was in the express lane on I95 coming home about about 45 min from Miami going roughly 55mph when the car suddenly hydroplaned got completely sideways and slid through the barrier separating the express and regular lanes and slammed into the back of a Ford Transit. My car is totaled. now before anyone jumps to the conclusion, I was driving straight, both hands on the wheel, not speeding or driving like an *******. I wasn't even accelerating or doing anything to cause the rear end to step out. The car simply hydroplaned, I counter steered but was not able to save it. It would be easy to accept the fact if I was driving stupid, dipping in and out, or doing anything to have caused the accident. I am absouletly distraught over this accident and loss of my baby. I am sincerely grateful that I am alive and relatively unscathed as well as the driver of the other car. So I will be on the hunt for another SL550 as soon as insurance is resolved and will once again be driving a beloved SL550 in the next few months. I called Renntech the following day and my rep said he would give me a discount on the tune for my next one and I will definitely be heading there again.

What an absolute bummer. very sorry this happened. It can happen to anyone.
Hopefully you’ll find a suitable replacement. I’ve seen some great deals on Pre Facelift SL63 lately on Autotrader. Some are priced where SL550s were a year or so ago.
If you’re after performance the AMG R231 is a great option.

I am absolutely considering getting a 63. Lets see what I can find when the time comes. Thank you and will do. I'm not leaving the family that is for sure. I loved that car and am 100% getting another.

So insurance settled out very quickly. I wasn't exactly happy with the value and payout but it wasn't too far off of what I was hoping for. So now the dilemma..Do I wait a few months to see if prices come down some, which I think might happen..or do I jump in now? I think I am going to be patient and wait until after the New Year. I did put in an offer on a car but they aren't coming down nearly enough and have the car pretty far over book value. I am 100% getting another SL as I absolutely love the car, but I think not being impulsive will serve best.

While I understand that they're under no obligation, I would be much more impressed if they had offered to do your replacement gratis. They already have your tune on file, so it should only require a download. Lots of these places will restore a tune for free if a dealership overwrites it somehow. Why is this any different? They'd be generating a ton of good will if they did for free...

A free tune would be outstanding, but I wouldn't expect that. Let's see what I wind up with as I am heavily considering an SL63. Whatever I get, I will contact them and see what curtesy they offer. I am most likely going to wait a couple months to see if prices come down any further. I am thinking Feb time frame to start the hunt.

Florida is bigger than that. My point is that you should start looking now. No telling what awaits.
