Cool Parts is Parts: eBay and Craigslist R231 Finds OR Are you searcing for an R231 part?

Searching for a part for your R231? Or see anything of interest for an R231 on CL or eBay?

Haha Yeah Carbon Fiber $$$$
It wasn't something I was really looking for. My car already had a spoiler the original owner installed before I got the car. But its like the one you posted below, and it's off center just a tad so was planning on removing it anyways. But for that price, it's a no brainer and it doesn't have to be painted to match!

Or really splurge on some Carbon Fiber

throw an offer under $400.00
(this is the 2015+ part number so it will be matte instead of glossy finish)

Over $2700 for the spoiler is nuts, anyway. Kinda like paying about $600 to replace a lost key.

Actually, I like the minimalist appearance of the cheapo eBay spoiler.

Haha, remember these ARE $120k plus cars.

I agree about the looks of the rear spoiler. That was the style the original owner installed on my car and is still on there now.
But goes against my Feng Shui rule of putting non-German parts on my German Car

I have the $99 pre-painted rear spoiler from eBay. Been on car for three+ years. Looks great still!

So, how fast does one have to drive in order for these miniscule spoilers to have an effect on handling. HaHa. I realize most, if not all, do it for looks. Am I correct?

LOL, doubt anyone on North American roads will go fast enough to see any effect. Especially Grayhairs in an SL
(maybe the guy in Germany who posted a video of him hitting the speed limiter at 160mph on the Autobahn)

I'm sure it definitely adds 10 hp!

I will say the one for $2700 better damned well add more than 10 hp!

I just put my car back on the road last week after 4-5 months under a cover. It’s in the shop now while I’m in Miami; having some hood and nose freshening done including some paint accents for the grille. I want that ApplePLAY dongle!!

Someone was looking for a glass style screen protector for NTG Navigation screens (The Pre-Facelift cars) - 149mm x 87mm fits well.
Though it claims to have anti glare coating, it still has quite a bit of reflection, but the screen itself is still very visible.
I have never been able to get the thin film style screen protectors laid down without air bubbles.
The glass ones end up being easier to install with no bubbles.

I don't believe that dongle will work with pre-facelift cars. I think you will need to have carplay already, and this just makes your carplay capable MB wireless. I use something like that on my wife's GLC300.
If you have a 2017+ then it should work.

my wife drives the GLC and seems fine with wired; I’d take a wired CarPlay solution for my ML and SL (aware of any?) there’s one I’d DIY into the ML but SL is so much harder to take apart. I’ve chipped and scratched parts of my wood trim.

The only viable solution I'm aware of is the one in @ThatsMyDawg excellent stickies thread, at the top of the R231 forum here:
https://mbworld.org/forums/sl-class-...y-install.html

It does require removing trim and some disassembly as detailed in the thread. I always use soft tools made out of wood (preferable) or plastic to remove wood trim, but there is always a chance of damage.
I also use masking tape to try to prevent damage. Just make sure it's not the super sticky type and remove slowly.

This part is already officially discontinued by MB 😕
If you need one, they will become increasingly difficult to source,
compare @ $145 vs $1720 😳

Howabout the hood badge? I want to replace my original hood badge with dark blue background for the more current black background (on my ML as well as my SL). I briefly considered AMG versions but they're either stick-on or have different mounting posts.

So, sticking with the standard MB look but in black there are still different backs available; am I correct in assuming the top one here has the correct mounting pins?:

Top one looks correct….
Be careful though, tons of ”reproduction” parts on eBay. (If that is an issue for you)
Try to find one from a reputable parts source, shouldn’t cost too much even from dealer….
