Spoiler suggestion please
Looking for advise here. I am designing a spoiler for my R231 and debating on which version to go with... Any advice is much appreciated. Thank you!
P.S. I know that the small edge spoiler is very popular on our models and that is what I have on mine now as well... but I want something else.
P.P.S. I am leaning towards number 5 myself but curious to hear your thoughts.

Sorry, but I prefer the minimalist design. Big spoilers remind me too much of these, which are silly for a street car.

Me too! I actually prefer NO spoiler on cars in general and on the R231’s in particular. It’s just cleaner looking, in my opinion.

Sorry but not crazy about any of them, BUT, it’s your car and you’re the only one that needs to be happy. Pick the one you like and ignore everyone else.

Since you’re asking for suggestions…
On nice cars like this, I believe it’s always good to stick to factory MB parts.
If you’re going to put a spoiler on your car, it’s also worth considering a factory spoiler.
If you ever plan on reselling, aftermarket parts can sometimes be a turnoff to some buyers.(bringatrailer.com peanut gallery etc…)
Few will object to a factory part. Unless it’s an AMG emblem 😀
As these cars are aging and some being parted out, good deals can be had for close to the price of the ”import” spoilers, especially for the $2700 SL63 U93 carbon spoilers: (see post #4 and #5)
https://mbworld.org/forums/sl-class-...r231-part.html
Also consider, the more weight you add to the trunk, the more the gas lift struts may struggle to open trunk. Heavy spoilers may require different gas struts.
There are several MB R231 part numbers available depending on which trunk and spoiler combinations your car has.
Anyway as @SteveL1 stated, it’s your car and you’re the only one that needs to be happy. Pick the one you like and ignore everyone else.
Good Luck!

Everyone here is a total bore, they'll try to talk you out of it! I like #1 or #2. #2 is a bit tall for a lip, but maybe giving #1 a slight duckbill shape, or at least one that better follows the curve of the trunk lid, could look pretty cool.

I like the SL63 lip the best. If the rest of your car is stock, the ones you pictured might be a little much. What, if anything else have you done to your car?

I love spoilers on cars and always have. Finding the right one is tricky and is the only reason I do not have one. Too small and may look like it doesn't fit, or has a build mistake. Too big and it looks like it goes on a different car, or takes away from the car it's on. I see plenty of spoilers daily and some are awesome. Still looking...
To the op, I like #2, but would still need to see it on the car.

I had a used 2013 SL550 that came to me with an aftermarket spoiler. I didn’t like it, but my detail guy said he was uncomfortable removing it, so it remained until I sold the car.
