What are my factory original brakes worth???
As some of you know, I installed AMG Carbon Ceramic brakes on my 2019 SL450, when it had about 1,000 miles on it. I kept all of the original factory rotors, calipers, pads, etc. and have decided that it is time to move them out of my office, where they have been sitting boxed up ever since. I'd like to sell them for a price that would be fair to the buyer and fair to me. What might that price be? It would also be great if the buyer could pick them up in Newport Beach, CA, as they are very heavy and I believe shipping would be prohibitively expensive. Any assistance would be much appreciated. Thanks.
The calipers are worth very little since they are not really a wear and tear item. The pads and rotors will sell to someone looking to do a brake job on the cheap but you will have to sell it cheap to make it worth while for them. I'm guessing a few hundred.
calipers may not be worth much if they sat a long time without being properly stored.
Pistons retracted fully and then filled with fresh clean brake fluid and all ports plugged to prevent internal corrosion.
Corrosion in piston bore will ruin calipers.
As for pads and rotors were they marked on how they came off?
Would be nice they went back where they came from since the pads were bedded into the rotors within those 100 miles.
So those above reasons would be why it is much less then someone buying new replacement parts.
When I upgraded my car to the AMG B06 brakes, I sold my old U28 calipers as a set. They were super clean as I’m sure yours are. An MB dealer ended up buying them as they were unable to get them from Germany in a timely bassis at the height of the pandemic. The hardest part of packing them is making sure they are individually boxed and padded, then putting them all in a bigger box. Shipping cost wasn’t too bad via UPS as they have best pricing on heavy packages like that.
The going rate seems to about $600 (+shipping) for a set (F&R) for the Brembo 4 piston U28 sport brakes with the Mercedes Benz script.
The regular brakes, plain with no lettering are harder to sell as few people would purchase them over the sport brake calipers as a set, unless they only need one as a repair.
if you don’t want to ship, then Craigslist is the best way to sell them…
I personally prefer eBay over Craigslist as you don’t have to deal with as many flakey people. Though have sold plenty of “too heavy to ship” stuff on CL.
Good Luck!

Right now, they are worth $0 to you since it is unlikely you will ever use them again. That is, unless you put them back on the car and sell your upgraded brakes. So, consider your time and effort to sell and deliver them as the basis of your cost estimate.
Maybe post pics other than when they were installed on the car.

If someone would pick everything up and give me $500.00, I’d be happy. I’ll probably just put the lot up on Craigslist and hope I find someone local. Thanks to everyone who commented.

Just be patient, I’ve had stuff that sold on the Bay Area CL after keeping them listed several months. Smaller target audience, and there just aren’t that many R231’s. Good news though, is the LA CL covers a very large area! Lots of repair shops too…

Might you know if these brakes will fit other MB models?

W222's share the same brake mounting points. Whats interesting is the AMG style 6 piston calipers are cross compatible between W222 and R231's. Same part number.
But it appears the Front U28 (360mm F rotor) brakes are different part numbers for the W222's and R231's. So there may be some difference. They appear to be the same visually, It may just be as simple as color of caliper. The rear calipers are compatible with W222's that use the 320mm rear rotor.
Good Luck!

Are you still selling your SL? If so, I would put the stock brakes back on and sell the CC brakes. You will get a lot more for them and they don't add a lot of value to a 450 (if any).

One day, someone will come along--who laments not being able to buy a new 231--and fall in love with my SL and buy it--or not. I really don't care. That said, there is still an ad up on this site, but I am not actively trying to sell the car. Swapping out the brakes is just too much trouble and even though it might make financial sense, I want the car to go to the next owner as is. In the mean time, I will drive it sparingly, enjoying every mile, which is at about 4,400 right now. The car is a unicorn, I like it that way and I'm going to keep it that way. I know I'm a little crazy, but what the heck?
Oh, why not post another photo?
