American vs European Oil

Interesting article. I know it's from an oil company but seems to make sense. So who sells 5W-50 European oil?

Just found this: https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/MOB1...s&gad_source=1

The Mobil 1 5W-50 sounds interesting, but I will wait until it's available meeting API SP requirements. It also only meets MB 229.1 and 229.3 specifications. I know we've been using 0W-40 for years without meeting API SP standards, but now that API SP is available, I am sticking with that. API SP is formulated to minimize or eliminate Low Speed Pre-Ignition (LSPI) on Direct Injection engines, especially turbocharged ones.

What about the European Formula Mobil 1, 10W-40?

Is that what you referred to in your above post?

There are no 10W-40 oils listed for MB 229.5 while there are some for MB 229.3. However, our engines (M276) require MB 229.5 specification oils. I meant Mobil 1 European 0W-40 above. Newer stock of the 0W-40 is API SP rated.

Make sure they are API SP rated and not old stock.

If you're in the UK, Opie oil currently has an offer on Petronas at less than £18 for 5 litres! I bought three and got free delivery.
