Yeah I saw that, it's been on sale for 8 model years and since spring 2012 so either way it's about 8 years so I'm not sure where they got 10+ years from. They're wrong from what I can see.

A bit worried that the new AMG 4-pot will be making its way into the SL. There were rumors/possible leaks of it being only 4-cylinder in lower-tier "AMG's" and 8-cylinder in full-fledged AMG models with no 6-cylinder in between. I'm hoping this is all but a rumor (although doubtful due to the W206 C63) and makes no sense to not include a the great M256 I6 (especially since the I6 engine has been in many historic SL's), and at the price that they will likely be charging, a 4-cylinder is somewhat inappropriate for a Sports/Luxury Roadster in my opinion.

Story on a 190SL
One late summer night in '76 I was driving my '59 220SE which I had spent the summer fixing from Pittsburgh to California to go to college at Fresno State. I was having difficulties with the generator charging the battery (the belt kept stretching) so I stopped in a gas station in Columbus Ohio about 2 in the morning. They said the mechanic would in at 6 so I decided to wait. Before long a guy pulls up in a beautiful blue '55 190SL and asks "Whats the problem?" I told him the issue and he said "Open the hood and let me take a look." When he looked at the engine he said, "Your fan belt is too small. I have a shop around the corner. Hop in and we can go get another fan belt". So next thing I know I am riding in this beautiful 190SL with this guy I don't know down back roads of Ohio.
Before long we pull into his vintage SL restorations shop, the grounds of which were covered with partially disassembled vintage Mercedes. At that point in my life I thought I had died and gone to heaven. The guy went into his shop grabbed a belt and some tools. We drove back to my car he replaced the belt for me and sent me on my way refusing any payment.

Back to the power of the engine and how fast it will go. Years ago I would have gone along with most that has been said. But here in the UK the roads are congested most of the time and there are speed cameras everywhere. So apart from going on a track day or the like (which is something I would never do) I wouldn't achieve the full potential from my 350 let alone a 500 or 630 But that's just my humble opinion. No doubt there are people who will disagree but Hey Ho that what these forums are all about

Nevada's ET Hwy
Here you go...a VERY long straight on the Extraterrestrial Highway (Rt 375) in near-by Nevada, near Rachel, NV and Area 51. Ah temptation -- I will not admit to have tested the 155mph speed limiter on my SLK55 AMG.
BTW -- most of the interstate highways in Utah are posted at 80mph.

Haven driven several BMWs at triple digits on the Autobahn I can tell you that anything above 150 mph gets the pucker factor up. Thankfully German drivers keep to the right and signal their intentions.

Nice. Just out of curiosity. What's the max speed limit in the USA now. Over here it's 70 but 80 is deemed ok if the traffic conditions allow. I've passed cops at 80 and they don't bother. But as I've said I'm no speed freak. Having said that I had her up to 90 the other week

In the USA now, each state sets it own speed limit. There was once a federal mandated 55 mph maximum in the 1970s, Usually on our Interstates it is 65 through urban centers and I believe it is 70 in the more congested eastern states in the open "country" . Some western states have 80 mph posted in the open areas. On 2 lane highways in open areas it us usually 65 mph but it varies from state to state.

Montana used to have some highways with no posted speed limit. Said something like a prudent speed. I understand this is no longer the case and I think the posted limit is 80 mph. I'm sure some other forum members can chime in and correct me if I am wrong.

Time to Close Out This Thread
I am guilty as are many. It is time to cease and desist with the speculation about a new SL model and off-topic discussion. How 'bout someone starting a new thread when they have some actual true and confirmed information, probably directly from Mercedes-Benz, about a new model, particularly WRT a rag top or retractable hardtop. No more spy photos with camouflage please. As I've posted before...

Good idea. I will unsubscribe and await a new informative thread. Perhaps you can start it. Bye.

Now having that back/forth out of the way, here are some more camouflaged pictures
One surprise are the rear windows and a very small roof outline. Likely still a soft top but a smaller one than on the GT. Other than that I seem to detect a similar center screen as the new S-Class...
