I went to the dealer today; found a couple of interesting bits of information, and added a couple of options to my build.

I'm #7 in line at my dealership, MB of South Charlotte. It's a pretty big dealership, so hopefully their allocation will be generous and swift. But no promises.

The dealer confirmed that the sports seats will not be part of the DY2 package; in fact, he thinks the sports seats won't be available at all on U.S. 2022 models. Suits me; I prefer the "regular" seats, which are still amply bolstered, reasonably firm, and infinitely adjustable.

In October, on the order book thread, I summarized my SL63 order:

Alpine Grey, red top, black/red pepper leather, 21" forged cross-spoke black wheels, driver assistance package, performance package. Couldn't check the ceramic brakes box; had to economize somewhere.

Well, I decided to bite the bullet, and add the carbon ceramic brakes. Of course, they'll cost as much as an entire smallish Mercedes did in the '70s. Also added night package #2, with dark headlights and taillights. And an extended warranty (7 years) -- it's a complex car, and lots could go wrong.

Best of luck to all. Looking forward to seeing pics of the first SLs to be owned by MBWorld posters, while I wait for mine.

Congrats on your config! Is there any reason why you would purchase the extended warranty upfront? Unless they discount the warranty 50% or so I can't any value other than giving the dealer cash for nothing. You can add the warranty before the factory warranty expires and the dealer will still discount it.

Thanks for the tip. I hadn't thought about that. I'll have a word of prayer with my dealer.

This is why I hang around with all the smart folks on this forum.

Really, Alpine Grey? That seems like such a boring color and one that blends into the color of asphalt paving, making the car less visible. Aren't there any more interesting colors, perhaps a brilliant silver?

I prefer "subtle" to "boring." I'm guessing it will be among the least popular colors, which suits me. The red interior will be visible with the top down, and the red roof will stand out with the top up. I have a friend who just took delivery on a Porsche 911 of similar color (Porsche calls it "chalk"); I think it looks great. This will be the first car I've had in 20+ years with non-metallic paint.

To each his own, needless to say.

Looks like mine has been moved up to 2nd decade in April. Probably mid-June delivery on the west coast.

I placed an "order" with my local dealer in December for a SL63. Checked with them this week and they don't have allocation yet but are actually expecting news on that this weekend. I'm first on the list so if they get allocation I'll get one. Still no idea on price or est delivery. They're also not charging above MSRP. I've bought a lot of cars with them over the years.

Good to know that these allocations are still pending as I also put in an "order" in mid December and my dealer says MB has not pulled the order yet; not sure how the allocation process works but some with SL63 orders have already been given a verified order and others like you and me have not, even though we are one or two on the list..

Dealer confirmed 190,800 EUR for the 63 and 160,800 EUR for the 55.

That is $215k / $181k

That is not a 215k car. Unless they charge a lot more in europe which doesn't make much sense.

I agree, with decent equipment, 63 will come out around 240k EUR / $270k
About the same price as Ferrari Roma!

Wow! $270K. Surely that includes the optional retractable hardtop upgrade and deletion of the Tesla tablet in the center console.

If $270k for a well-optioned SL63 is in the ballpark, maybe one or two people ahead of me (I'm #7 at MB of South Charlotte) will drop out. I doubt it, however -- folks in the market for cars like this aren't very price-sensitive. I'll bet we'll see some hefty price increases among competitors.

It's not so much about price it's about value for the price. If it's truly that expensive I'd rather spend the money on a Huracan. SL dances the line between a sports car and a luxury car. For 250+ usd you're getting into supercar range.

People need to remember two things when looking at pricing in other countries. 1. Don't apply exchange rates unless you plan to buy and ship to the US. 2. Deduct 19% VAT from the German price. US listed pricing is net.
Once done you'll see that the pricing is more in line unless MBUSA will round things up/down to fit it's pricing targets.

So about 145K you think for a loaded 55, or will that possibly be without options?

Thank you. My goodness I never understand why people try to do a direct conversion on pricing for other markets. It is never the same.

Performance seats delayed for 12/2022 and so is my order.
I placed a 5k deposit after the official presentation/advertising material and I won't let the dealer force me into ordering standard seats because they have no one else to sell this unfinished car to...

Well, my dealer has not gotten allocation and has no word of when they will. It seems Mercedes is having issues making these. Not a surprise given the component shortage. If they don't release them relatively soon I'm going to pull the trigger on something else and buy one of these next cycle when they're available.

My dealer is definitely getting an allocation. He called me as they are getting a car in that is close to my specs on a special order that I made a month ago. But it didn't quite hit all the important check boxes for me. Most of their initial allocation is all spoken for. He said they expect them in April or May. My special order he said it would take up to eight months.
