SL/R232: get in line for new SL ?

2021 911 Targa 4S in Chalk

I couldn't agree more. I went to a large Boston area MB dealer, I was passed off to an "AMG specialist". I asked about placing an order for the R232........crickets. I restated my request......a SL63e. This man didn't have the slightest clue. The sales staff barely know ANYTHING about the cars on site. The collective sales rep knowledge is about zero.
If one desires information about a MB product.......value a forum like this!!

Perhaps I wasn't totally clear about my encounter. My "AMG Specialist" was not familiar with the R232 nomenclature. I've been buying SLs since 1986, this is not an aberration, it's the norm. I wanted the exterior carbon fiber package on the last SL65 I ordered. My sales rep informed me it already had a carbon fiber interior trim.........failure to listen or just obtuse???
Buying a new car, especially a toy car, should be fun. Most consumers hate car buying for a reason. Do your research online and order online!

At the end of the day, if the buyer isn't having a good experience learning about a potential purchase from me then we're both going to be miserable.
If you have any specific R232 questions feel free to ask but I may have have answers to everything. I have street and track time in every initially available configuration.

The ride and road feel of the car is entirely different. The R232 uses a completely different style fluid suspension system which allows for a much wider range of feeling. The SL 55 is going to be most similar to what current owners are used to, allowing for the softest and most compliant settings. The SL 63 in Race mode genuinely reminds me of the GT albeit with AWD. With the varying degrees allowed through each mode it genuinely does feel like having two different cars.
I'm aware of how overused the word "feel" was in that breakdown, I haven't had my coffee yet.

We may as well adapt TESLA model with no allocation, complete transparency in pricing and delivery dates.
We read car reviews, read forums and make our car decisions based on those. Sales people still exist because traditional manufacturers can't switch to Tesla model with configuring and ordering automobiles online.
For now we have to sit down with the 'brand ambassador' and configure car on some secret limited access manufacturer site.
It's coming.....
This is close to the configuration I've requested.
Here's some great B-roll of a Cirrus Silver SL63.

We have our GTC to cover us until we select another convertible but I wouldn't accept a $160k - $190k car without the basic luxury components, no matter if the supply chain, a vendor or an internal MB "made-a-mistake" issue is blamed.
I hope that this gets resolved soon...
