Rant.

Think the whole world has gone mad. No more so than in the auto industry for dealers to charge up to 50K premium, well that's their right and just depends on how many of us have more money than sense, but who am I to judge. However, MB are now taking it to the extreme. Possibly (and that's a big if) delivering to eager buyers in say August, who have been waiting for months and not only have the nerve to call them 2022 models but having changed the interiors on some orders but with the biggest kicker, that said buyers have no idea how much the damn thing is going to cost? You couldn't make this up. As a famous tennis player once said(Wimbledon tomorrow). You cannot be serious!
My deposit was returned to me 2 months ago. Just had enough of this nonsense. A friend of mine said his will be delivered in August in London and seeing is believing and when there and(IF) he has his 63, I will report back.
Rant Over.

With all due respect but that is the definition of first world problems!! I am sure MB is not doing this intentionally just to **** off its customers who want to spend 150k+. Covid has really affected and changed many industries and it is what it is. (Just my .02). With that being said, the delay sucks!

SL fans:
The solution is beyond simple.........don't buy until sanity returns. If a buyer decides they want a new SL regardless of price,,,,,,,,,best wishes! Buying a SL is buying a wanted toy, not a life sustaining mandated purchase. I want a new SL but attempting to negotiate with a dealer is an exercise in futility at best. I sat down and spoke to a major Boston MB dealer about a year ago.......I was directed to the "AMG specialist".
Problem #1, my dog knew more about AMG. Problem #2 was he thought he was doing me a favor, wrong!!, a deal should be mutually beneficial.

I'm sitting on the sidelines until this nonsense is over. I want a new SL, I don't need a new SL. For those children that feel slighted by this environment, take your dog for a walk and be patient.

Love SL's and have had them for a long time. But I would caution paying ADM for these. First, the resale value will drop like every other AMG or any recent SL; the new one will not be an exception. It's no G-Wagon. Second, you will receive a car as a 22 model which already has a model year depreciation build-in. May not be visible now but it will be in a year or two.
Last but not least, some desirable options are not available. Not a great start when the car will likely approach $200k with options.

I am tempted to test drive and likely order the car but that will be at the earliest next year with a discount off list and the options I want.

Agreed 100%. As a matter of interest, at present, can you name another car manufacturer who announced a new car last year, we have seen hundreds of pictures, mainly in Europe and yet for our market, nobody knows the actual price? And to another poster, yes MB are pissing people off. Covid or no Covid.

I wish I could tell you that this is something new. It has been normal to order new MB models without knowing the price.

MBUSA has always been terrible with price releases. What is new is that they don’t list them as later model years. The W223 S-Class should have never been released as a MY21 and neither should the SL be a MY22.
It would have been easier to accept a delayed price for a MY23.
I know it’s semantics but MB doesn’t have to price a car well before the release date.

Agreed, MB is not doing this to **** anybody off, however, it does demonstrate a level of arrogance.
MB believes they can do what they want with impunity. MB is an iconic brand built on quality, great products and great service. What is happening with the SL is none of that.

Probably because Mercedes has gone on record saying they are trying to appeal to more women for their AMG cars. Is it really such a horrible thing that a woman is driving the car in the commercial?

I really want a new SL but there’s no way I’m paying a premium and not getting the interior color I want. Will simply continue to drive my ‘13 SL, which I dearly love, and wait as long as needed to get exactly what I want at a reasonable price.

*IN ALL COMMERCIALS*
It was the final straw, turned me off from buying.

I went for a Ferrari Roma instead.

Seen them all, not a single ad where a woman is the only driver.

Price and exclusivity was my main turnoff.
Base price for the 63 model in Europe is 188k EUR, or around $200k. Fully opted - 264k EUR!!
43 model is 117k EUR so we will see barebone SLs worth 120k and 264k on the street and most people won't be able to tell the difference. Same car, different engine, 144k EUR difference (over $150k )

Ferrari Roma base price in Europe - 182k EUR. In USA - $225k.
No way to weasel your way in buying a cheaper engine!

Question Delay in releasing MSRP

Pretty clear MBUSA is not going to disclose MSRP until the R232 is released into US market. There must be a marketing reason but seems to me all they are doing is pissing off their customer base. What is more curious to me is the delay in releasing the car to this particular market.

Ferrari is like Porsche with their options, the base price quickly skyrockets with little effort.

Ferrari has the highest profit margins of any car manufacturer; 25.5% or $106k per car.
That is across the lineup of course but at least you know how much your Ferrari really costs. For the Roma they get at least a $56k present

Which Ferrari do you own?
I need a daily driver and this is the best they have on offer. I've only driven AMGs in the last 15 years and it is time for a change!
I am 41, software developer. How old is your wife and what does she do? Not many females where I am from can afford a $250k SL, you are one lucky dude.

Really depends on price. If the SL creeps into the 200's then expect Portofino to enter the conversation. At that price I don't want pieces I see in a C class. Ferrari is next level. Who cares how much they make off each car.

Lamborghini, actually.

Don't get me wrong...I think both the Roma and Portofino are great regardless of the driver's gender...both far better than the California. Wife is also considering the Roma, but primarily the Continental GT...if the dealer tries to play any ADM games if/when this SL55 ever shows up, it's straight to Bentley...and, yes, I am one lucky dude!

All three...new SL, Roma, and Conti GT...were at the Rodeo Drive Concours a couple weeks ago. In person the SL really has a great presence and gives up nothing to the other two, even if there are girls in the ads...

What on earth does the gender of the driver in a TV ad have to do with you buying the car?

I see it as Mercedes mocking men who can afford this car. Very few young ladies, as shown in the commercials, can afford a $250k car. Is MB targeting trophy wifes? Looks like it!
SL is a top of the line Mercedes, the pinnacle of success. Entrepreneurs, C-level executives and old money are real buyers, not 20 or 30 something year old females driving down to the beach for a cocktail.
