SL/R232: Impressions 2022 SL AMG 63

having purchased my car at msrp, during the insane times of a $25,000 market value adjustment I felt good. Then the market dropped and my $200,000 SL became $150,000. I am now over it and hope to enjoy my car going forward.
I just picked up a holdover ‘22 last weekend at a discount and traded in a 2020 E63S. I just broke 100 miles, so super limited sample size, but here are my initial impressions:
Driving dynamics are amazing - the car hides its weight incredibly well. E63 was a rocket in a straight line, but cornering was meh. With the rear wheel steer and various AMG technologies, this car wants to corner and takes twisty roads with delight. I can’t wait to take it on the track once it’s broken in.
While I know it’s polarizing, I personally like the technology in the cabin. I’ve already started getting used to where everything is and I can set favorites for things I use frequently, like massaging seats, and there are physical buttons for heated/cooled seats and air scarf. Personally, I find the main climate control easy to use despite not having physical buttons. Parking camera is super easy to access - easier than on my E63.
The one thing I’ve been a little disappointed in is some of the fit and finish things. For example, where the lower dash stitching meets up with the door stitching you can see that the door lines up just a touch lower than it should. The doors also sound very loud when they close despite having soft close. Also, the use of piano black in so many places is annoying because of how dirty it gets with fingerprints. While these are not major issues, I expected a bit more attention on this dimension for a car that was intended to retail around 200k.
Overall though, I am thrilled with the car. It’s a proper sports car, not a 911, but I want more luxury than a 911 offers. So it hits the mark for me right now. And, despite my complaints about fit and finish it’s better than the E63S in that dimension (other than the use of piano black, which the E63 did not have). The other car I was really considering was the Bentley Continental GT Speed. Obviously more luxury, but didn’t quite have the sports car dynamic I was looking for. Also it was another 100k+ in price!
I’ll post another update once I hit 1000 miles and can start letting the engine wind out a bit.
Ride quality is very important to me. I’ve driven a 2018 E63 once and found it too harsh in its comfort mode. Lots of people complained about this and apparently addressed in the 2020 refresh with suspension tweaks that seemed to have made a difference. Can you comment at all on the comfort ride quality between both cars in their most comfortable modes? Thanks!

on a side note, nowhere near the sports car feeling of the 911 992 Porsches. I own a new GT3T manual, and a totally different experience

My understanding is that MB solved this problem on the facelift E63S and it seems they carried that correction over to the SL63. I would not hesitate to purchase due to ride quality. But know that it’s not floaty like a Lexus in Comfort either. You should definitely take it on a test drive on streets you know and drive on frequently.

I can't agree enough about your feedback, the driving dynamic of this car is amazing but the finishes & details are not a $200K plus car!!
