Question Digital Light in US SL63s?

Looking to check with current US SL63 owners if the Digital Light feature present on the car is as fully functional as what it does in Europe, since my understanding is the advanced features should now finally be legal in the US. If you can post a photo of the 'lighting' menu of the infotainment system too, even better.

The features I'm interested in are shown here:

Thanks!

Was it this one? https://mbworld.org/forums/sl-class-...eadlights.html or a different one? I wasn't able to find anything in a search. I do have "316 DIGITAL LIGHT" and "608 Adaptive High Beam Assist" listed on the build sheet.

EDIT: sorry, finally found something in another forum that explains it I think: https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...ml#post8780995

I sent an email this morning to a MB coder regarding the Digital Lights. Fingers crossed that he can enable the full functionality for US cars.

I received a response from the coder. He said that the coding options for the R232 SLs will be available next month, including full Digital Light functionality.

Sweet! Will there cost to turn them on?

There will be a fee involved, but I'm not sure how much he will charge. Based on some of the work he has done to other MB models elsewhere on MBWorld, he is less expensive than some of his competition. I am also interested in some of the other modifications such as remembering the last drive mode setting on start up, valves always open, disable start/stop, etc. You will need a windows laptop (I will need to buy a cheap one since I have Macs).

I received an email from the company earlier today. It looks like the new coding options for the 232 SL will be released by the coding company in the next day or two. I'll keep everyone posted.

For any of you with the new SL with Digital Lights, here is the link to RJ Automotive based in the UK for full activation for US cars. I placed my order a few minutes ago. I have no affiliation with the company. It has very positive reviews elsewhere on the forum and online.

I received the coding OBD-II adapter from RJ Automotive. I purchased a cheap, clean Windows 10 laptop from Bestbuy to use solely for the remote coding session. My session is booked for Thursday July 13th. Fingers crossed that all goes well and I get the 1st US SL with full digital light functionality.

Unlike coding for BMWs, not many coders focus on MB. In light of the newness of the 232 SL and the relatively small number in the wild, the only coder I could find who works on the new SL was in London (they also have a physical shop in London). I had an hour long coding session today. In addition to the Digital Lights, I had the start/stop disabled by default. If the rain holds off, I am going to take a night time spin to check out the lights. The start/stop coding works.

I believe the DOT has not approved it so most US shops would not comply out of fear of liability.

Good news, the coding done by RJ Automotive remotely from London seems to be a success (I haven't encountered a situation yet for the road projections other than the rainfall during start up/shut down). Sorry in advance for all the pictures, but I wanted to share what I was able to see during tonight's test drive (these are screen captures from video). In addition, I am really enjoying the coding to have the engine start/stop disabled as the default setting.

One thing I discovered was that the Auto high beams will only engage when the street is dark enough to warrant high beams (the MB marketing materials seem to imply that with Digital Lights functionality, the high beams are always on except at low speeds).

Low beams stay on when the street is too bright (based on the Auto high beam criteria)

With Digital Lights, the reflective glare from street signs was reduced

Notice the blacked out area when following another car

Notice the blacked out area as the car approaches

Notice how my lane lights up as the car passes by (but the other lane still remains darker)

I am behind a car with my low beams (based on the Auto high beams logic of the SL)

A second later the SL decided that high beams were appropriate - see how the grass was better lit but the car in front was still blacked out similar to when the low beams were on)

Here is a combination black out for an oncoming car while I was behind another car

I am very happy with the coding done by rjautomotive.net - Raj was a pleasure to work with.

When they code for the on/off default does it also turn off the icon in the instrument cluster? Have you noticed any bugs?

I have not experienced any bugs post-coding to disable the start/stop by default. When it starts in Comfort mode, the lower button on the configurable left side steering wheel button has the auto start/stop as off (red color). No Auto start/stop icon appears on the driver's dashboard. On the large center display screen, the message post coding is the opposite of what appeared before coding. It now says to tap on the center screen if you want to turn on the auto start/stop for the engine.

I got the coding done - the high beam feature works as described. I wanted to ask if you got the warning display on the ground signs to work as well. I did not manage to see that yet. Is there a trick there to follow?
THank you!

I'm glad to hear the coding and your high beams now work as designed. I haven't had an occasion to see the ground signs feature. I was also away last week and didn't do much night time driving the week before. I tried to read the information in the owner's manual, but it was a bit unclear if anything other than the choices in the lighting menu needed to be engaged (e.g., driver assistance) for some of the advanced features like the ground signs to work. The one feature I would like to see in action is the pedestrian alert.

I might try to read some of the other parts of MBworld.org to see if there are other postings (including some on ILS+) that might shed more "light" on the subject.

I decided to go to the gym early this morning. Most of the ride was on the highway. The high beams were on and the digital lights were working their magic with the other cars on the road. I tried out a few of the warning features. When I signaled to switch lanes that had a car in the blind spot, a warning triangle displayed on the roadway to alert me. When I turned on the adaptive cruise control, and signaled to switch lanes, the digital lights projected an image to show the lane change until the car finished its lane change. For the features to work make sure everything is turned on in the lighting menu (and submenus).
