Worth the risk/used

Trying to get some feedback from owners. Worth the risk of buying a low mileage used SL? I"m familiar with litany of issues but the insane deprecation has me considering one. 40% off sticker w/ low miles worth the risk? 1-2 years remaining factory warranty? Value there or too many potential issues to deal with?
Thanks!

Insane depreciation has a reason.

Insane depreciation does not solve or eliminate issues, neither does it eliminate the time and expense to deal with them.

Yes! It can be. It can also be expensive to maintain a MB.

Life is short. Enjoy it.

2022 AMG SL55
I bought a CPO 2022 SL55 with 3000 miles in August of 2023. Went through the battery issues and several recalls but today, after all software updates, recalls, and a replacement battery I rarely use the maintainer they provided with one recall. I do keep keys in a Faraday box and double click FOB after use. My SL is only a weekender so I have only put 3000 miles on it since Aug 2023. Bought another year of warranty with the $4,000 voucher and haven't looked back. Love the car. Only current nagging issue is a slight brake squeal at low speeds and an intermittent alarm saying seatback is not set. Plan to address both at next regular service visit. If you don't buy a CPO then make sure the car has all software updates and that they provide you with the MB CTEK tender just in case it sits for awhile or you leave it unlocked and get the low battery alarm on the app.

Thanks! I think I'll send it. Want something fun for the summer, just don't want to be at the dealer every other week. Enjoy yours!

We just bought a 2023 SL55 AMG with 8400 miles on it last week. It was sitting at the dealer for 41 days not plugged into a tender. It’s going to my local MB dealer this morning for probably a new 12v battery and some updates.

The car is spectacular and my wife loves it.

Life is short. Choose wisely and get it!

Great cars, and I think your approach to the depreciation curve is smart. Let the first guy take the hit, it doesn't matter if it is a S65 or C300, all Mercedes-Benz depreciate. I don't think it has anything to do with the quality or how good the vehicle is itself, they just do.

Couldn’t be more pleased with my ‘23 after all the recalls were done, not a single glitch and I just bought out my lease, so I’m putting my money where my mouth is. You were smart to let the first owner take the depreciation (me), my car has been perfect— KH

I am really enjoying my ‘22 SL63. It’s also a weekender, but sometimes doesn’t drive for 3-4 weeks.
I am just shy of 10,000 miles which makes miles per year a little over 3,000.
Even though you are getting a well depreciated vehicle, don’t hesitate to offer something lower than they are asking. It doesn’t hurt to ask.
And don’t let them bully you. A well placed sigh can be very persuasive.

22 SL63 with a little over 2,000 miles. All recalls done. Zero issues fantastic car. Very fast but comfortable plus you don’t see one everywhere. Great car!

Bought 2023 SL63 last Sept. 2k miles. 40% off sticker. Love the car. Was going to trade in for my 2025 Panamera Turbo I just picked up - but decided to keep it since it’s that good! Go for it. No probs in 5 months.

A depreciated car with low mileage is always a better deal. All cars are compromises and as to the car itself, following the recalls it's been bulletproof. Mine is a 2022 SL63 and I enjoy driving it; it is ungodly fast and handles well enough for the road with excellent brakes. The car offers good technology and comfort (when you want to cruise or drive long distance). If you are looking for an out and out sports car look elsewhere. Hope this helps.

Smart Idea

Great idea. This is exactly what I did and have not regretted it . I purchased a 2023 SL43 after driving it with 2,600 miles on it. It looks and drives like a new car. I had a small issue with a door handle which was fixed by the dealer. The car was heavily discounted with a full warranty. Don’t listen to the nay sayers!!! It is a great car. As others have said, SLs regularly depreciate the first few years but let someone else take the hit. I am totally satisfied with the 4 cylinder. It has plenty of power and its sound is great. Go for it. You will love it.

I bought a CPO 22 w 3700 miles 6 weeks ago. Love this thing and it’s great. Wife loves it too, which I’m surprised by frankly lol.

CPO warranty through end of 27. Pretty happy so far.

Can't agree enough !!
I'm recently shopping for SL63 for the same reason in depreciation and noticed there are MANY MANY MANY I mean MANY Lemon SL63 / 55 Out there @ Hoffman Estate:

I had to deal with the 2019 S63 Couple that Mercedes gave me hell to buy back which made me switch to Porsche 5 years ago, for sure don't want to repeat the experience!!!

All the cars in this line(43,55,63) are turbocharged. If they were normally aspirated, they would be too anemic to get out of their own way.

Mainly the weight doesn't help. That said, most if not all MBs are turbocharged now, no?

I totally agree. I had a 1997 S2000 that was naturally aspirated.it was a dog below 5 grand. After that, the VTEC took over. A much lighter car but still very slow in the lower rpm’s. The SLs are indeed heavy and need the extra push.

So do you rather have a high horsepower NA engine or a low horsepower turbo charged engine? What about supercharged? What about both?

currently, one of ny vehicles is an iX. So it’s a moot point.
