7" Screen Android Radio Installed in R107 560SL

New owner here. I just inherited this 560SL that's been in my family since 1987. I'm a bit younger and used to having some decent tech in my cars so I installed this 7" android radio. It provides Google Maps navigation, youtube, spotify, etc. Here are a few pics of the install as well as some pics of the car. Let me know what you think.

Thumbs up! You did a great job; looks factory. Now others will know it can be done with a 107.

Impressive. Can you share cost and level of difficulty? Anything unique or challenging related to installation? Where did you purchase new radio?

Sure, I purchased this unit from the Joying store on Aliexpress while they were having a sale. The total came out to be $220 shipped to my door. Currently it's for sale for $286 on their website here. There are cheaper versions with less memory/ram available, and possibly even cheaper on Aliexpress.

As far as installation goes. It's about as easy as it can possibly get. These cars are old, so the wiring is not complex at all. You just hook up the power and ground wires, and then the positive and negative front left and right speaker wires and that's it since there are no rear speakers or amps etc. Not only that, but the wire colors match because they're universal. Just match up the colors and connect.

The only other thing to do is place the wifi and GPS antennas behind the radio, and that is also incredibly simple because there's a ton of space behind the radio and glove box to secure them down.

Does the antenna still operate correctly with this set up?

I actually tested this out while I was installing the radio. There is an antenna line that can be connected that will raise and lower the antenna. It automatically raises the antenna when the unit turns on and lowers it when it turns off. I ended leaving the antenna connection unplugged though however because I don't listen to AM/FM radio (I use Spotify from the unit), and I don't particularly like the look of the car with the antenna up. I can say that it does work though however.

Thumbs up Love it!

I am going to be doing the same thing to my 84 380SL because I am also used to good tech in the car. I added a touch screen to my 07 SL550 and it looks factory. Did you have to cut the wood piece or is it just behind the screen? Anyway great job!!

The screen actually sits above the wood panel. No need for cutting, there's plenty of clearance for any switches underneath .If anything I wish it could sit a bit closer and more flush to the wood panel underneath

Do you have the Model Number of the unit you purchases? I can't find it on the web site from looking at the pictures. Thanks!

Here is the Joying unit the company recommends for my 1987 560SL:

https://www.joyingauto.com/joying-la...4g-module.html

If they link is no good, they recommend the "Joying Latest 7 Inch Single Din 4GB+64GB Android 8.1.0 Car Media Player With Built-In 4G Module".

Hope this helps.

Help with Joying wires colors

I am installing a 7” Joying on my 87 SL as well , currently has a locked / dashed Becker. Can you share a bit on the wiring because the MB wire colors plugged into the Becker connector does not match the color codes for modern ISO harness. Any help to do this right will be appreciated.

Looks great!

Did you just leave the fresh air/ recirculate button in place? If so, is it still accessible?

The display is detachable and there is sufficient room behind to access it if needed but since I don’t use recirculating air almost never I do not mind not seeing the button. I do not plan to relocate it. I bought this ISO adapter and plan on cutting the Becker wire ends to pair them to the SL wires and have a clean ISO compatible socket to plug it in the Joying head unit.

I guess this is the only guide to use to match the position of the 560SL harness wires currently soldered to the Becker socket to pair them with the ISO equivalent since they do not match in color. Anyone has a lead? Thanks

The screen looks great! Love the MB logo. Nicely done!

Question for the group - I have 1972 US version. 350SL. I believe I have a standard raise and lower by hand antenna. I thought I read somewhere that if I buy a power antenna, all I need to do is plug up the connection as power is already in place and ready for conversion to a powe antenna - turn on radio it goes uo, turn off it goes down. Does anyone know? Have experience with that?
