New to me 1978 450 SLC

After being away from a Mercedes V-8 coupe for 17 years, this caught my eye on BaT. Quite a different car than my Corvette C8. It should arrive in Houston in about 10 days. It has 113k miles but recent paint and new interior, about $28k in receipts the last six years from the seller. Always liked the C107.

First project to replace the front bumper rubber cap that was torn. Three 13mm nuts and or bolts, then the end cap came off. Simply slide in the new piece from the outside in the grooves.

Repaired my front air dam that was cracked in the middle. I used a rubber repair kit, where you melt strips of plastic with a triangular tipped device similar to a soldering iron. I used the supplied wire screen on the back and then melted plastic into the front and then sanded. I may not paint it. Better then the $450 part new.

I sanded and painted the lug nuts. I used the original Wurth silver wheel paint, a perfect match.

Today's project was replacing the engine compartment hood pad and painting the air cleaner housing. I used a plastic interior trim tool to remove the old one, after spreading a 9x12 plastic sheet over the engine. There were a few places where I needed to use some light sand paper, but not through the paint. I found the original Mercedes glue (the part number is on the can photo). I used a brush and applied to both sides, waiting a few minutes for it to tack similar to rubber cement. I also sanded and painted the air cleaner housing with semi-gloss.
