SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: What ever happened to Treynor's SL 65 with Renntech Upgrade?
I was just wondering about when we might be able to see some new videos, stats, and any other updates on your Renntech upgraded SL 65?
I can't wait to see what it will do with some drag slicks on the track, and what it can do on the street with street tires against all the other cars that will probably try to race you on the highway or stoplight to stoplight.
Are you going to add a renntech racing exhaust upgrade, or any other upgrades? Does renntech do internal engine modifications on the 65 engines yet? Has any tuner attempted it yet? I've read in a couple places that fully unleased and unrestricted the 65 engines can put out 850 horsepower and almost 1000 lb/ft of torque, and that's just with the engine as it is, not even including if somebody can figure out how to bore it out to 7.0 liters or more.
Also, does anyone have any predictions on what the average ballpark price will be for a used SL 65 in about 6 months from now, maybe with 10,000 to 20,000 miles on it? There have already been used SL 65's for sale recently with just 6,000 to 9,000 miles going for $159,000 or so. With the prices dropping so fast, do you think I might be able to scoop one up about 6 months from now for close to $100,000?
Thanks again guys for all the info ...

that car will fall in value faster than a stone off a cliff in a california rain storm. its 30k over priced new so that 30k will get chopped off its value faster than anyone could imagine. Go look at a 3 year old amg car... it falls far faster than the non amg versions and the difference in say an 2001 S55 and S500 is not nearly as large as it was when new. The top priced car in a class always falls to the price of the next highest in the used car market.
ever wonder why dealerships in Los Angeles have 2-5 SL65 and 3-4 Cl65's just relaxing in their lots? There is a very limited market for that car. Most people would go buy a F430 or Lambo before a 189k MB that looks like a 90k SL500 with a wheel upgrade.
Why all the hating on SL65...... It is a great car, a blast to own and in my opinion woth every penny. Why should I have to make a choice as to buy a SL65 or spend that money on a Ferrari or Lambo. Got to tell you, if you are buying a 190K car you can probably have both.
For used SL65's, I am sure they are going to take a hit like any other MB. Your comments about AMG cars not holding value as good as their MB counterparts is way off the mark. Try looking at a SL55 or an E55 not just the S55. All production cars will drop in value. The S55 was always a bit of an odd selling AMG.
MB used to hold their value better than other models up until the point where we started being offered Wholesale prices for trade. I used to get good money for my MB cars in trade when I bought another MB from the same dealership. Now all they do is look up on the auction what a similar car is selling for at auction and give you that in trade. I would guess that MB dealers are now making way more money on used cars than they are on new ones. They are giving us less money on trade and buying cars at auction and then selling them at full retail value. When is the last time you saw a MB for sale at a dealership at a wholesale price?
We, as customers keep letting this happen every time you trade a car. Even with the reduction of margin that they are making on new cars I believe dealers are making more money than ever.
Enjoy, I love my SL65.

Can you tell us which cars so far have tried to race you on the street? How bad did you beat them? What was the scene/scenario involved? I love hearing these kinds of things ... wets my appetite further for later on when I'm gonna pick up a used one one day .....I can't wait to hear all about it ...
Since the Renntech upgrade, does the car feel like a whole nother level faster than it was stock? Like a totally new car? You told us the rwhp and rwtq numbers, but what exactly does that translate to in normal horsepower and torque figures? Is that like 740 horsepower or something? And 850 or 880 lb/ft of torque? Just wondering ... wow that car is beyond powerful ....
That's awesome, and I'm sure we all can't wait to see some new video's with loud sound as soon as possible !!!
