Slm???

Hey Guys,

A friend of mine who buys & sells vehicles called me last week and told me that he is getting a grey-market SL. This SL that is coming-in is supposed to be a prototype car that AMG built in 2000 to try-out an 8.9 liter engine for the coming new generation of AMG SL's.

Has anyone heard or know anything about these machines? Supposedly there we're only about a dozen ever made.

Thanks,
Tony

It wouldnt have that engine still in it though, usually they keep their prototypes forever or destroy them, I doubt they would sell the car berfore the new SL's are even in. I think the new AMG engines will be six point something litres too, nto 8, thats huge!

8.9? That won't fit in most trucks let alone the SL! I think your friend might be stretching the truth a little bit.

If there was a 8.9 anything out there it was not AMG related. Since it's a grey market car, it is more likely a unknown tuner shop that did the engine enlargements and now try to pass it off with "grey" information.

Brabus did a SL with 7.9 liters a few years back so a 8.9 would not be impossible, but god forbids if anything goes wrong with that car then you would be out of luck with no parts and no idea who can fix it.

Are there any big MB tuners in the states? I would be looking for one in the mid-west if at all possible.

Thanks for all the posts!

Brabus is one of the best tuners in the states, their cars come with factory warranty as well, which no other tuners can offer. I only know they have a dealership in Long Beach you can check out their web site for more locations.

This may have changed, but when last I spoke with the good folks at Renntech, I was told that they warranty their parts and work only... if you have their pulleys installed and chiptune, and then blow your transmission, you're out of luck w/ both Renntech and MB.
