Michelin PS and PS2

Hello guys, I'm from the CL forum thought of posting here to get more response.

My car came original with Michelin Pilot Sport. Now I have a lot of very positive rave reviews about PS2, how much exactly are they different from the original Pilot Sport in terms of dry/wet tractions, ride quality, noise and cornering grip? I would really love to know.

If the difference are enourmous, I would gladly ditch my pilot sport and get the ps2s. Thanks.

I put a new set of Pilot Sports on my 04 SL55 and couldn't believe how noisy and rough the ride was compared to my old Pirellis. i took them off and went back to the Pirellis.

I have PS2's on my E55 and I must say they are quiet, grip well, corner well and the wet and dry traction is top notch. By far much better than Michelin's original PS. Clearly these are some of the best tires you could buy for the money.

Ps2
I agree, just put some PS2s on the SL55 and it feels so diffrent from the pzeros. I would say they are quieter, more grip and overall the ride quality seems to be better. I haven't driven them in the rain or wet yet so I can't comment there.

GL with your decision!

Wait until your current tires run out of tread (or do a bunch of burnouts, which ever you like ) and then shoot me an e-mail. I'll get you some PS2's quick for a low price.

Its dumb. If PS2 is so much better then its predecessor why does Merc not slap those on instead of the old original PS? Surely it not the cost involve in a $180,000 car. Weird...

I but the ps to have rather lousy ride noise at times. The grip is ok to me. But as good as Bridgestone Potenza S03 but i have yet to try how good the ps2 is. Are they a lot more expensive then the PS? I just hate to waste away a good PS just like that.

90% of the buyers wouldn't care PS or PS2. I think this message board represents maybe 1% of the SL demographic which are enthusiasts. Besides the car is a GT not a sports car and buyers wouldn't care about that .2 seconds off their lap time. If your current PSs are in good shape I wouldn't change them for PS2. I guess it depends on your needs.

Also PS2s are relativly new. I don't know of any manufacturer that is supplying them OEM at the moment.

Entirely valid argument. Very well put.

PS2 are rather new, it is not even advertise or marketed much here in South East Asia. If you want them, you need to find some really huge tyre marts to get them at a premium as well. And it is certainly true that I have not heard as well of any manufacturers putting PS2 as OEM yet.

I personally would have no idea, I just look for the best prices, I'm not a supplier myself Sorry bro.

Give your dealership a call though, they should be able to help.

Are the PS2's even made in our staggered sizes? 18" x 9" and 10"?

I'm a big fan of the Bridgestone S03 Pole Positions as I have had nothing but good luck with ride quality, noise, longevity, and especially grip in both wet and dry on my previous BMW. I wish they made our sizes!

S03
I had S03s on my M3; good tires. You are correct, the PS2s are available in staggered sizes. I went with 255/30R19 in the front and 295/35R19s on the back.

One aspect that I like about the PS2s is there is more audible indication and changes happen more "progressivly" when at their limits vs. the s03 and the pzeros seemed to just break free with little warning. I feel better with that characteristic since there doesn't seem to be great feedback with this +4000lbs car porking around corners. I'm by no means an expert and I've never been on a track. I'm just a car entusiast and happens to enjoy driving quickly on occasion and these are my humble observations. The roads around where I live are pretty much flat, straight and boring.

I think they are avai in staggered sizes. Not too sure myself, I am looking at the 245/40 and 275/35 19. I tried the S03, PS, RE040, GYear Eagle F1. They are all good but i still prefer the S03 the most. They have much softer compound and way grippier then PS. But the PS thread life is amazing for its performance. Now I really wish to know how does S03 compare up with PS2. I dont really give a damn about treadwear to be honest. lol

I just want sheer grip and comfort. Dont lecture me on getting drag radials. I kill any idiot who dare mention that. Also I've heard very very positive things about BFGoodrich Semi Drag Radials on roads as well
