Saw SL55 in Encino, CA
On my way home today a silver SL just flew past me, looking at the badge it was a Sl55. I tried to catch up to get a better view. The guy saw me comming and just gunned it. That car is way tooooo fast and nice.
So does this mean there out in Cali??

European SLs do not have the repeater lights in front of the front wheels, so if you see them it's a US spec model. Never understood what they were for anyway. I saw an announcement somewhere specifically aimed at US buyers wanting to blank them out.

Marc,
I noticed that in the picture you posted, absent was the V8 Compressor emblem that appears on the SL55.
Do you have any idea why?

The photo is definetly an SL55 - look at the body, the brakes, etc.
THose are definetly the wheels I'm picking for the 55, though.

I'll make a call and find out. My guess is either it's displaying a 'fake badge' or they're factory cars. Any one check the plates on this phantom silver SL55? Regional zones get all the new M-B's well ahead of the public in order to test, familiarize, and train personnel. We went to training classes for the SL500's several weeks before they were officially launched. I can just about guarantee it's not a 'sold-to-the-general-public' SL55.

RAB, the SL55 I saw back in March was a US Spec SL55 (Checked the VIN). The story I was told my the GM was that this SL55 was a early production model for a "Very Special Customer". That VIP turned out to be one of the hottest looking 30-Somthing year old women I have seen in a while !
Wonder what kind of Bonus was in that.
