Passenger side mirror missing boarder?

This has bothered me from day 1- I noticed the boarder on the glass of the driver side mirror is not on the passenger side mirror- it makes it look cheap. I thought maybe I just had a bad passenger side mirror and Id address it some day, but now I see it on my friends' SL55. Does anyone know the reason for this? Thanks.

best regards,
Jerry

Can you take a picture of it? I'm not really sure if I understand what you are describing.

Non Dimming

Jerry,

The passenger mirror non-dimming. That is the reason. It is cheap. In fact, the mirror often breaks upon removal. Look in both mirrors with cars behind you at night. The driver mirror is dimming and the passenger non-dimming.

Thank you- that is silly. I will post a picture when I have some time to do it.

Btw- we are really enjoying our 05 SL55AMG.

Best regards,
Jerry

Totally

It totally is in my opinion as well. $125K+ car $10 cost savings. Oh well. I love my SL55 as well. I can't believe they're getting rid of the supercharged engine in favor of a less powerful normally aspirated one!

Less powerful? I thought HP was going up- is torque going down? If they are going to the 7 speed transmission, there will be more gears to generate torque. Do not be so sure power at the rear wheels is going down. And that brings me to another issue- I sure wish the 55AMG had a limited slip diff.

Best regards,
Jerry

Jeffreyy: It's got more hp, either way, NA is better than FI. Because you still have the option of adding FI

AMG Jerry: There are many companies that make LSD's for your car. If I remember right, AMG has one, Kleemann offers one, and MKB offers one. There might also be more but those are the ones I remember off the top of my head.

No Argument

Well, let's just say in briefly looking at the specs, the HP difference on the positive side seemed quite a bit smaller than the torque difference on the negative side.

However, I don't want to get into an argument about it. You're right the 7 speed might make up for some difference.

In general, all I'm saying is that the 5.5 Kompressor is a great engine with a great exhaust note. It will be missed. I had thought that if they came out with a new one it would trump the 5.5 in both HP and torque.

I'm sure there are probably some reliability issues with the Kompressor as well. I don't have it but others have reported the hesitation and supercharger squeak.

Don't forget this as well, Mercedes has to target those in all types of climates. FI, especially superchargers, don't cope well in a wide variety.

Thanks for the great info. I know you can get a LSD from MB- but you'd think it would be std.

Also don't forget supercharged engines do not do well at all with fuel economy. Not that this is my #1 concern with a powerful engine. I too have an 05 with no problems and I think its a great engine. Maybe they feel they have reached a certain performance plateau. After all, the tires can barely cope and the ESP can be light up like a Christmas tree. The cars are heavy enough already, maybe they feel if they add even more power, it would require yet more beefing up of parts, thus increasing weight... just speculating... My thoughts are don't get too upset this early.

yes they do...it is called a UK spec auto dimming driverside mirror glass...BUT the question is not wether mercedes sells that mirror glass - the question is wether your mirror has the connector and wiring needed to get that glass to dimm...

Upset...not me either. I'm at sea level so the Kompressor works great.

The new N/A vs. the current F/I engine apparently has something to do with gobal environmental guidelines that become effective in the near future (Kyoto anyone?). I too am sure the F/I engines are going to be missed. I know I'm keeping mine!
