SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: Turbo timers? Idle before shut down on SL65?
for my 55. I'm just wondering about the turbos and if you need to idle before shut down or if the cars come with turbo timers. I know this is a consideration for all turbos and was wondering how MB addressed the issue on the 65s. Thanks in advance for any input!
I remember this was asked before in the Tech forum, basically on our cars where we aren't running massive boost, and the fact that we don't really 'stress' the engine, it's not a big issue.
We do have timers that are automatically initiated from what I remember.
If no one gives a firm response, it might be best to ask the dealer.
I do remember having a few 600's sit there 'on' while the cars themselves were off.
Skip the turbo timer.
comparing to those with only 1 year... warranty.... they will be more worry about it.....

I have no idea since this would be my first turbo based car.On a side note I was given a 65 to take out for a few hours last night; wow, what a car. I don't know if it's the fact that my SL55 is getting older and worn in but the 65 felt tighter, more refined and so smooth. As much as I love the exhaust note of the 55 I think the tone of the 65 is perfectly suited to the beast.
I do miss a stick shift... sigh. Thanks for answering my questions.

Even in light use it can exceed 100,000 PRM's.
Just "coast in"....drive gently for the final leg of your trip.
Only time you really need a dedicated cool down is, for example, pulling into a rest area after travelling 75 MPH consistently.
