Breaking news....new SL WITH SLR NOSE COMING
Bet this will ignite some debate....you either love or hate it.
From Autospies.com
This just in-Hot news on the next Mercedes SL
10/14/2005
In the UK, Mercedes Benz are DISCOUNTING SL's by as much as £5,000 - fueling speculation that the "new" SL is closer that we think. Mercedes Benz are a little busy at the moment with the S-Class and forthcoming C-Class, but it's rumored that the SL may sneak in between these two big events.
There are two major changes afoot for the SL, one is the inclusion of the SLK/SLR nose to the car (along with some other slight modifications) and the other is the introduction of a revised 350 model with the latest electronic valve 270-bhp 3.5-litre V6 mated to the companies excellent 7-speed gearbox in an attempt to vastly improve performance of the entry-level model.
Other slight changes include the introduction of scratch-proof paint, a few paint and leather color options and a new range of alloy wheels complete the changes, which will attract a slight price increase when the car appears (probably) at Geneva in 2006.

Dude, this is so .. wrong?
SL's are being discounted somewhere in the region of 17K$ here (or so I've read).
SL350 is already out in UK is it not?
The scratch proof paint is probably the ceramic paint.

Scratch proof paint
The paints used are all environmentally compatible, water-soluble products, which fulfil stringent Mercedes quality criteria in terms of colour, gloss, resistance to aging, scratch-proof properties and chip resistance.

When Rob from AMG in MBUSA spoke to us last week at the Northeast AMG meet he told us that we probably wouldnt see that for atleast another 3 years or so, he also said that their will be a slight facelife next year i think ('07). But i dont think it will have the SLR nose yet.

Dealers arent discounting 2006's by 17k, its the remaining 2005's that are being discounted.
If the SL is going to get the SLR nose then what were all the spy photos showing the same fascia only slightly different front and rear bumpers all about?
Putting the SLKs hood on the Sl will hurt sales... Who wants to spend a 100k on car that looks like the cheap girls model?

This is what will happen (you can quote me on this later): A mid-life facelift will be presented. This will include minor interior and exterior changes to the current model. Mind you: minor.
Furthermore: The SL500 will become the new 5.5l 388Hp engine. The SL350 will become the new 3.5l 270Hp engine (non-US?). And supposedly the ///AMG will become the 6.2l 510Hp engine (SL63).

a few...
really just not feelin the whole nose treatment on that SL jakpro posted. I get it for the SLR but to put it on the SL just isn't the right marketing ploy in my opinion. They have a great car and I don't really see why they would put such a radical new front end on them given they have sold the crap out of them these past few years. Oh well, that's why the executives are in charge...

There is a story in this months Motor Trend about poor SLR sales...I doubt MB would make the SL look like the SLR... it just doesnt make sense.
I know the SL isnt as hot of a seller as it was back in 2003 but its not like dealers are overrun with them...
Someone post the spy photos showing the revised bumpers.. me thinks new motor and new bumpers... no camel nose... PLEASE!

So once again: We won't see the SLR nose on the SL any time before hell freezes over.
