Selling Help

I have tried to sell my car unsuccessfully several times. I have tried Ebay and word of mouth and Ebay was a disaster and everyone who is "interested" turns out to be full of Sh.. or has no money or has to ask their wife. Whatever. Can anyone tell me what they think is a good outlet to sell the car? Dupont I believe is a window shoppers magazine and do not wish to spend hundreds to have my car in Dupont. ANy suggestions would be appreciated.

Wow, nice car! Do you have any more pictures?

I wish I knew what to tell you on moving the car. There are a limited number of people that can afford a SL65. I would keep posting on Ebay and traderonline, the right buyer will come along. Have you tried a dealer like http://www.parkplaceltd.com/?

your car was featured in the magazine "modified luxury exotics" right?

you should list your mods. I believe the magazine article said that your car was kleemanized

nice car, I saw that in "modified luxury exotics" also. I believe its a 500 w/kleeman supercharger. For a car like, that, I'd say you're going to have to wait for the right buyer - someone who appreciates the time/effort/money put into it and is willing to shell out. just keep advertising and be patient. good luck with the sale

Selling cars is always a challenge. There are always 'tire kickers' with everything from Cavaliers to Ferraris. Modded vehicles are always a tougher sell. Moxt people want an original, unmolested car. Unless you are willing to eat the $$ that was spent on mods, you have to wait for the right buyer that wants those exact mods and is willing to pay for them.

Trying to sell

thanks for the replies - I didn't see them till today - yes the car was in Modified Luxury and Exotics Dubs, Rides, CAr Audio, and Plush and took second at Hot Import Nights - Atlantic City!!!
The car is an SL500 - Kleemann Supercharger. Kleemann ECU Upgrade, Brabus Exhaust, Brabus Bodykit, SL55 Taillights, Black Grill, Kleemann Lowering Module, Ultrasueded headliner, Nav. Unit Modified to play DVD's, ALpine 6 disc DVD/cd changer, JL Audio Amps, Focal Speakers, JL SUb Custom Mounted Under Passenger Footwell, XM Satellite Radio, I-pod connection, HRE 847's - 20x 9 20 x 11 - Michelin PS2's, Brembos 8 piston front and 4 Piston Rear. Special order Red/Black interior.
CAr has everything and looks ridiculous. I have never seen an SL that has taken me out yet, and I think the mags agree - hence Game OVER!!!

Anyway I have over 60K invested and I'm only looking for 95K - Oh yeah it has 8K miles and is an '04
Thanks any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you friends with any high-end car dealers or showrooms? A place that has always had a nice supply until recently is thenewautotoystore.com. What city are you from? But, I guess if you are looking to save the $ and not do dupont, you wouldn't want to pay a commission... Good luck!

if you have any more pics, im sure everyone would like to see as many as you would like to post.

I have seen the pix of the work done to your car and its very nice.
Selling a car with that many mods is going to be very tough. Your best bet is so to pull the supercharger, raise it back up, put some AMG wheels on it before trying to sell it.

As it sits right now you MIGHT get $5k more than what a SL sells for stock (used). Most people dont like buying a car with that many mods, especially a $100k one.
I had a 2004 G35 with supercharger, full HKS suspension, big brake kit, stereo etc... about $25k in mods... I listed the car for $40k and got offers from $33-37k.. I pulled off all the mods and returned the car to stock and sold it for $33k... I sold all the mods and got $14,000 for them...
So trust me, its better to sell the car as stock as possible. People do not value mods, and dealers are even worse. If you traded it you would get less auction price.. no dealer would put a car that modded on their lot.

More Pics

I have done this more times than I care to admit (about 10)- Since I was 15 - that was 20 yrs. ago - I have lost a small fortune modding cars - I don't care - I don't do it to recoup the money - I do it for the LOVE- many of you may remember my last car a '02 CLK55 that was in the defunct Benzo magazine and featured at the NEW York Auto Show - HPS supercharger (junk) tons of other stuff. White/with Lorenser fenders and combo Carlsson RS kit and Lorinser DTM - I used to be JT55
Anyway I did take all the stuff off that car - I just hate doing this - I have to spend more money to take it all off - basically its a royal pain in the ***.
Anyway thanks for the input.

I think another hard part about selling it.. is the warranty i'm assuming is null and void now? with all the modifications you have made, affecting so many aspects of the vehicle, i'd think the dealer wouldn't take responsibility for anything that goes wrong.. or am i incorrect in this assumption?

PIcs and Warranty

Yes the pics were taken by a professional - AI Design in Tuckahoe, N.Y. has used it extensively for their ads and website and letterheads and video. Its nice when people appreciate the work - thanks.

As for the warranty -well a good friend of mine is the head tech at a dealer and he somehow takes care of me - (money talks ya know) So yes I have to pay off every service manager - However, last time I brought the car in some overzealous ****head rushed out to the car to register me in and I didn't realize that by him checking me in and not the service manager I knew it would be a disaster. Sure enough the ******* flagged the car and now its in the computer as modified - they wouldn't do the brake upgrade do to the Brembos and everything that I wanted fixed they blamed on the brakes - ridiculousness - so anyway I had to take it to another dealer and pay someone else off - basically anything can be overcome with $$$.

Case in point - I had an '02 CLK55 with a HPS (can u say junk) that fried my computer and other things - I paid a few hundred and they replaced everything and pretended the supercharger wasn't even there.
I don't know this to be true but I've heard in CA they are alot more tolerant of mods than in NY - here they are total ****s about it. They act like you just committed murder.

............you have an incredibly beautiful car. The major problem is that one can buy an SL55 for less than the ammount you are asking for yours.LINK As beautiful as your car is, it will be quite hard to sell it at a price higher than one can get an SL55 with warranty. You can sell it for a bit more than the cost of an SL500 from the same year. Hard facts but true. Why not just keep that beautiful thing.
