Michelin PS2 Failure
I was bopping along one of my favorite roads and I was coming up on some fun esses. I go through the left and as I transition for the right the car starts to push (I never get understeer through here...especially now as I really am not pushing at all). I gather things up when I feel the dreaded thump, thump.
Sure enough, I pull over and I see that my driver's side tire is down. I then walk over to the passenger side and that one has a split sidewall.
After a call to MB, a tow truck arrives. When I get home and jack the car up I can see that the passenger side side wall had split and the driver's side bead had split. Not only that but upon looking at the left rear, the inside side wall has a huge bulge in it!!
Thankfully, I was only going between 50-60 when they let go. Does anyone have experience trying to get a tire manufacturer to cover obvious munufacturing related failures?

i got a bulge in my front ps2 235/35/19
when i was at sema i spoke to one of the michelin guys about it. i didnt hit a bump or pothhole, it kinda magicaly apeared. he told me that if i can prove that it was a manufacturing defect then the retailer (tire rack) should take care of it. my car has been at the dealer for a week already so i havent done anything about it.
good luck

When I had the car derestricted and put the AMG 19s on the car........the ONLY tire that was rated for over 300kph AND the weight of our pigs was the Michelin..........so that's what I went with.
Up until that failure the car handled great....had seen 200+ mph. I'm just glad that they failed on a 50mph corner!
I've got the tires at Discount tire and it looks like the Frenchies are going to do something. Hopefully replace the whole set!

sheeesh...another PS2 problem...no wonder I hate these things
lets add that to the list of:
out-of-round/oblong tires
70+ lbs road force
flat spots on brand new tires
bulging/broken sidewalls from minor potholes
widths larger than actual size (causes lots of rubbing issues)
super high price
3-4 weeks wait for warranty replacement tires in some cases

How many miles had you done on the tyre set?
This is what happens when a 911 rear fails on the Nurburgring...

Well...........I spoke with Discount Tire today (they are trying to get the Frenchies to pay up), and Michelin is giving me $1200 credit on the tires and a BIG apology!
How do like them apples!
I'm not sure that I want another set.....but that is still the only game in town for the weight of the car. They also sad that they have improved the tire. Hopefully, its a better tire than they brought to Indy for the F1 race!

PS2's are the shiznit. I just can't believe all of the negative comments that always come out of the woodwork on any thread about them! Yeah, they're expensive (what's your car and the lives of the occupants worth?). Yeah, they don't last for 60,000 miles -- duh. They're the best out there right now, period. I put 'em on every one of my cars that they'll fit on.
Oh, and the F1 debacle at Indy? Everyone knew that the extreme banking in that one turn was going to cause problems with the tire. I don't remember if it was politics or logistics that ended up hanging them -- but the choice of not running vs risking lives was the right one in my opinion!

"Rad abgeflogen" or somthing like that..... You can actually see the flying wheel just after he spun off, and you can here the scrach just when he starts to slide. It could have been an tire blowup, but that does not explain the flying wheel.

This reminds me of an old PS in Road and Track, where there is a guy standing on the side of a snowy road next to an embankment. Down the side of this hill sits a Ferrari Boxer, obviously a little banged up. The caption for the photo is. "Good tires.....yes. Great tires..........no!"
As far as the F1 thing goes. They knew the deal. They knew the forces involved. They only had a year to to test and get tires ready............and they didn't. Dumb, dumb, dumb!
