Evidently that car has been spotted in your area alot lately. Although the SL73 is a rare car no one has been able to identify its authenticity.

there was a thread on this earlier, i've seen the car. looks nice, what an idiot though, wouldve been much nicer if he kept teh 55 badges or debadged it.

sl73's were only produced as 129 chassis. v12 n/a (zonda s engine) about 550hp. ive seen 1 at teh intersection of mulholland and coldwater. very nice. there was also 1 4 sale in dupont a while back (might have been the same car i saw)

That 7.3 AMG motor is the big dog -- heck, I'd put it in my lawn mower if it'd fit!
Pagani uses it exclusively now, but I have heard of one or two other manufacturers who managed to put a few in their vehicles, and they will now retrofit a CLK GTR with one too...so it would be posssible to see something going down the road that has actually been modded with that engine....
The Pagani site has a couple of fairly decent pics of that motor....

A little bit OT, but back when Mika Hakkinen was still driving for McLaren in F1, MB made two E75's (on the W210) for Mika and Coulthard. Those would have been some serious cars...

Don't flame me for raising a dead thread. I heard some concrete info on this mystery SL73 today so I thought I'd share. Here's the story I heard from the dealer that is considering taking it in on trade. Apparently it was commisioned by an exotic car dealer who also has close ties to AMG. It was brought into the US in 2005 (Florida) directly from MBZ as a stripped down SL55, still in primer. It was registered in the US and then turned back around and shipped to Germany where it was legitimately reworked and completed by AMG as a true one-off SL73 with SLR nose, custom interior and 7.3 V12 motor.

Good news, it's the real deal and apparently fast as hell. The bad news? It's officially registered as an SL55 and the guy is having trouble getting the $200K he wants for it. So, there you have it.

Well from a man who has run with him on the 101 through the valley its NO V12. Have seen it many times and it is a SL55 with a really ugly nose, some other bs and some fake numbers.

IF that was a V12 wow it was slow. Oh and no V12 will ever have the deep bassy tone of a V8.

There may be a car out there like you say but this car is NOT it. This car is some putz who has his car registered in Oregon to save on taxes. Wait until the cops ask him about the nice pates. He will owe CA a fair bit of cash

Interesting. Maybe there's more than one... or maybe there's a local RR dealer about to get hosed!

someone should ask themselves if it is even possible to bore the V12TT motor to 7.3L before they post that it is in fact a 7.3L name a tuner that has bored to 7.3, you can't. because you can't do it. that car is a 55, taunted him myself with the 32. he hit it once, it was not that fast and it sounds like a V8. so, it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, ****s like a duck... it's a duck. an uglyass yellow duck with pigeon makings, but a duck non-the-less.

well yes

did not want to get to picky but i think these things called water jackets start to come through around 7L!

and the block needs to be fairly strong to withstand all that boost and there is NO way you could make a 7L version work with boost. A 6.9L NA version of the 3 valve V12 was pushing the limits!

No 7.3L anything exists in the R230 chassis. R129 Yes R230 No.

my co-workers and I actually saw the car on Beverly Blvd. as we were driving back from lunch.

we were able to get a pretty good look at the car and the driver (I was driving alongside it on Beverly, and I didn't have a cam on me to take decent pics )...

well, the car did say SL73 and it had the SL65 bumper and the SLR hood. the driver looked pretty err... how should I put it? brokeback mountain. the vanity plate said "PRDCR" or something to that effect. pretty damn brokeback mountain if you ask me.

so, more sightings of this guy...

I forgot what wheels were on it, but they were chrome, that's for sure.

it wouldnt make sense to put a 7.3 v12 n/a engine in a sl55 b/c a tuned 55 will make just as much poer if not more.

and boring out the current v12 to 7.3 liters isnt possible

you're in luck guys...

I was in Westwood for lunch today and I saw the infamous car... it was parked by Penguins, so even though I didn't have my camera I took pics of it on my phone.

I'll have pics of it by tonight when I get home...

This car's been sighted and has come up before -- I don't know for sure what it is....

But some - not many - real 'SL73s' were produced:

Thanks for the input. Perhaps the car belongs to one of your GM's. Or perhaps it's yours.

Anyways, we were talking about an R230 "SL73" not an R129 (which I am fully aware were built).

Here are the pics...

it was taken with my crappy Treo 650, so the quality isn't so great. the badges do indeed say SL73 on the rear and the sides say V12 Biturbo. the car had Florida plates on it that did say "PRDCR".

(and yes, I did make a u-turn to take more pics.)

i dunno..i kinda like it..though i wish it want yellow. and the fact that it says 73, is kinda gay. if it were left alone as 'sl55' on the back, i would have had more respect for it. i think that car would look good in white or blue. i dunno. to each thier own.
