Caught it on tape..thanks for the heads up. The wife was of the edge of her seat too. My two current interests...Napa Valley & 2003 SL55's, what a combo! I'm either first or second on my dealer's list. The salesman is going to let me know the final verdict tomorrow (delievery date/Price).

He did mentioned VIP cars the other day, and I told him I'd be a little upset if management were driving around in 55's while I sat on a list going on a second year. That was like arguing about the price of popcorn at the movie theater with a high school kid working the candy counter. You know the look..eyes glazed over, shoulders shrugged.

F#^k, I don't have Motor Trend unless I get a converter box for my cable, I'm wating for my cable company to finish converting so I can get HDTV from them and then I will get the converter, I just hope this is before august is over (at least that is what they said)
If somebody records it and can digitally share it, please let me know.

Those who saw the SL55 feature, did MT offer tapes? If so, what number can one call.

I don't think they mentioned tapes and I don't see any on their web site...hoefully you can tape one of the upcoming shows or someone will post it...I am going to have to rerecord mine as satellite reception got messed up a bit...

I read the article in the Magazine and I have to say I was impressed with the numbers. Appart from the acceleration until 50 mph, SL55 posted the fastest numbers. It outaccelerated Ferrari 360 Spider! WOW

I recorded it on my DVD recorder. It looks really good. I could try and transfer it too my computer, but this is DVD quality video so the file would probably be much too large to send by e-mail. If someone wants to send me a DVD-r I will make a copy of it. Also, if there aren't too many requests I might be able to send a few people the video on CDR's. I will trim it to just the Sl section of the show, but I can't take out the commercials because I don't want to get too far outside the law.

P.S. one of the most impressive things about the segment is how flat the car stays going through the slalom. the abc really does it's job. I mean race car flat. My 129SL looked like a SUV in comparison. Also....the sound.....If they could keep the damned announcer silent and crank up the sound from the car. When you do hear it it is incredible.

OK, here is a clip of the Speed program, folow this link the full version with Mario Andretti is not working yet, I haven't been able to upload it (conexion times out, somehow) but at least you can see the most important part, the numbers. I made the Short version as small as possible and I think quality is not too bad.

Great Video! Thanks a lot!

I am wondering how will the upcoming SL600 compare to the SL55, since they are going to have identical power, although the 600 should be slightly heavier but with more torque. The 600 should also be noticeably smoother and refined, although the 55 does not sound bad at all. I just like my GT (albeit a Viper-powered one) to run a little smoother than a full-fledged sports-car. That engine sound and the three pointed star on the hood is a combination I am not ready yet to accept.

Do you think that the Sl600 will bow at the Paris Motor show as well?

If anything I hope it is louder in real life than in that video. Which it probably is as some sounds dissappear through the recordings.
