WOOT! WOOT! 06 AMG Challenge

I'm going to the one in Lime Rock. Tuesday for a refresher and the Graduate program on Wednesday. Now to spend the spring and summer waiting for it.

Back to back days is demanding ...

I thought I wanted to do that last year at California Speedway, and was put at the head of the standby list in case anybody for the Grad class was a no show. By 11am into the Basic class I said take me off tomorrow's list.

The Basic class itself is intense (and I have taken high perf. classes elsewhere). There were times I would get out of a car and hardly be able to stand, and I probably sweated off 15 lbs on a cool day in LA. So I felt I just would not be at my peak after a full class and only a few hours to recover.

Anyway, I am already confirmed for Cal. Speedway for the Basic class again this year, I am see where I can clear my schedule for a trip to New York or Florida for a later Grad class. Too bad Joliet Illinois is only getting the Basic class, I have family near there.

Was it fun? WAS IT FUN?
After two laps on the slolom course with the SL55 the instructor stuck his head in the window and said "drive it like you stole it"
I'll be there Monday afternoon shooting vid with a Sony FX. Hope to see you as I float around.

Can't wait.... Hopefully, you won't get a shot of me spinning 180 around corners....

Don't laugh. Some people had a real tough time on the skid pad, some did a bit of landscaping off the circle.

I clipped some cones on the evasive manuvers course, also went down the wrong side and ran over Muffy.

$4.5 million worth of AMG cars to push to the limits. They give you breakfast, snacks, lunch, etc. On the open track I had an E55 almost drifting off the track because I was a bit heavy on the power coming off a cormer. That's with an instructor in the seat beside me. You get a lot of track time and a lot of instruction time. There are very few restrictions as to how hard you push the cars. At Lime Rock you are limited to 100 MPH on the straightaway and can only pass on the straight if the instructor tells you to. Lime Rock is a small track. I was told I could pass some slower cars and I kept the hammer down coming onto the straight and managed 130 before braking into the first turn.

Do you actually get to drive the SLR too?

I registered for Oct 06 in Homestead Miami. Besides the fan that we are going to have, we will also get to meet with other Mercedes enthousiasts. Is there any other event in South Florida where you get to meet and socialize with other MB enthousiats?

A few people got a ride in the SLR driven by Tommy Kendel, but we drove CLK55s, SLK55s, E55s, CLS55s, and SL55s. They had an S65 and an CL65 there but only the instructors drove them. I got a ride with Tommy in the CL65 for a few laps around the track.
