20 minutes ago I'm rolling down the hill from my house with the top UP and WHAM! My rollbar partially deploys. So I stop the car and try to lower it via the center console and get a "RAISE ROLL BAR" warning in the status screen. I try to lower the top but get nothing. So now my roll bar is wedged up about 85%... won't raise fully... won't lower... top won't go down...
I'm going to the dealership tomorrow but curious if this has happened to anyone before.

That's a royal pain. You have my sympathy. I've never heard of anything like that, but lots of automation means lots of things to go wrong. When you find out what went wrong, plese let us all know.
I'm curious: in normal operation, will the rollbar deploy when the top is up?

In this video you can also see the rollbar deploy when the SL55 is taken over the track. But abviously this happens because of the rough handling of the car over the track. Just cruising and then deploying the rollbar seems like an electronic malfunction of some sensor or what have you. Can be fixed easiliy probably but still a pain.

Yes it will. Happened at the 05 AMG Challenge to guest celeb driver Tommy Kendall when he crested the uphill run at Lime Rock. He was in a SL65 and he thought his passenger did something.Originally Posted by CASL55

OK, here's what to do to fix it...
When the rollbar deploys with the top up it doesn't lock in place - it';s basically in rollbar limbo. You need to RAISE it using the controls on the center console until you hear the locking noise. It will then lower normally.
