Seating position

I'd like to switch from the 911 Turbo to the SL55. I took one for a drive yesterday and loved it - with the exception of the seat bottom.

It doesn't extend as far out under the legs as I prefer, nor does the front edge pivot up (back edge down) enough to make me feel comfortable.

Has anyone had experience making mods to the seat mounts?

Thanks in advance

So no one has done anything to change this too short seat?

If it had the same seat as my 01 E55, I'd love it.

The SL55 12-way seats' bottom extends and retracts to a long and short position...

Thanks Ian but I couldn't get comfortable. I'll try another one and hope the first was broken.

My test drive in the SL55 was painful on my back because I did not take the time to fully adjust the seat. There are a lot of adjustments and once done I don't want to get out of the car.

To be honest, I can't get comfortable either...

I tried a different one tonight and the length extension was much improved. Still not as much rear tilt as I'd prefer.

Your last comment about not getting comfortable is disconcerting. How would you explain your discomfort?

Any shortcomings in the car (beyond seating)?

Thanks,

i have the same problem too.... when i adjust the seat more incline backward, my back is comfortable, but then I can't lay my head on the cushion while driving.... but when i adjust the seat up more to let my head lie on the cushion, my back becomes too straight and not comfortable.... can't find a balanced position which is good for both.. this won't happen to S and C class..

fast cars and faster motorcycles ..
DFW,
i had a 996TT and purchased a SL55... the seats are better in the SL than the turbo, but if you want the best seats, try an BMW, especially, M5 or M6.. they have an extension that supports under your knee and have had this feature for some time..

Agreed JR, I've driven my brother's M3 and the seats were great.

Best seat ever in a car ... 1989 Bonneville SSE. HUGE chair with every adjustment that I needed.

2005 SL65
i've got the same trouble with the seating position in the 65: i can't rest my head on the head restraint unless the seat back approaches 90 degrees north. and then the seating position becomes uncomfortable on my back. if the head restraint were to pivot out more, then perhaps it'd all work better.

I can't find a position where I can lean my head back on the headrest at all, and I'd prefer if the front of the seat tilted down more to alieviate pressure on the bottom of my hamstring during long drives. Basically, the weight of my right (gas pedal) leg rests square on the edge of the seat... In long drives I literally get aches.

anyone knows if there is any reason why the seat is designed like this? now seems that a lot of people can't lay the head on the headrest. Is it safety related?
