SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: ECU and pulley upgrade?

2003 SL55 Black/Berry
ECU and pulley upgrade?
I'm considering the Renntech ECU and pulley upgrade for my 03 SL55. The cost is $4,995 not including labor for an advertised gain of 45 hp!! Anybody out there do this? Does the performance warrant the cost? Seems like an extremely high price for a modest hp gain. Thoughts?

Your money would be better spent with Speedtuning USA for the ECU. It'll run $400....then spend the rest at Skip Barber or Bob Bondurant............then you can take that performance upgrade from car to car.
exactly...starting to feel that's a wiser choice.

Again expensive but only the individual can justify the cost. Think about it another way; the Renntech mods will cost you $111 per HP whereas the complete SL55 costs you $249. It's only money!!!!!

The car is much more responsive and from a standing start it literally explodes, pulls much stronger to the redline and really pops when it shifts. It even makes my wife's '06 E55 feel slow.

Thanks Adam...called Richard and he cut me a great deal!!..now I'm going to throw in the Brabus lowering unit with all the money I saved. Hey..it's only money after all.

Why Carlsson? Richard suggested Brabus over Carlsson simply because he's seen more problems with the Carlsson module. What's your take?
