ECU and pulley upgrade?

I'm considering the Renntech ECU and pulley upgrade for my 03 SL55. The cost is $4,995 not including labor for an advertised gain of 45 hp!! Anybody out there do this? Does the performance warrant the cost? Seems like an extremely high price for a modest hp gain. Thoughts?

Try the ECU reset mentioned here by Jakpro1, it felt like 30+ horse to me - and it's free!
Then you can see if the car is still lacking.

Your money would be better spent with Speedtuning USA for the ECU. It'll run $400....then spend the rest at Skip Barber or Bob Bondurant............then you can take that performance upgrade from car to car.

I have the Renntech ECU, pulley, throttle body and carbon fiber airbox. Expensive---yes; difference in performance--- made them stock SL55 feel sluggish in comparison. The car is much more responsive and from a standing start it literally explodes, pulls much stronger to the redline and really pops when it shifts. It even makes my wife's '06 E55 feel slow.

Again expensive but only the individual can justify the cost. Think about it another way; the Renntech mods will cost you $111 per HP whereas the complete SL55 costs you $249. It's only money!!!!!

Nice way of looking at it

As a bonus though, Mercedes-Benz throws in a set of wheels, some chairs and a stereo for free

I wonder when Lexus will copy the R230 so we don't have to go aftermarket for sound systems

Why Carlsson? Richard suggested Brabus over Carlsson simply because he's seen more problems with the Carlsson module. What's your take?

Well, i think the Carlsson lowering module has the most aggressive drop. Then again, everyone is entitled to his/her opinion!
