Glove box stuck shut on SL55
My SL55s glovebox lid refuses to lower/open when the open button is depressed. I have tried turning the emergency key in the glovebox lock and the locking mechanism definitely opens and closes so that's not the problem.
The lid seems to lower very slightly on the right side (nearest the lock) when the open button is depressed but thats as far as it will go.
Any ideas gratefully received.
Thanks

LOL, sorry, I don't mean to laugh but that brings back some frustrating memories. You should try to press and hold in the button, and pull down on the top lip of the glove box and it should pop out with some force, I had that problem and then just took it in and they fixed it under warranty. It needed a new latch I believe.

Being Serviced as we Speak
My SL55 has the EXACT same problem. It's being serviced as we speak under warranty. I think they're just changing out the latch. Take it in to your local dealer and have them fix it.

thanks for your input guys. Took it in to local dealer today and they removed the trim on the side of the glovebox adjacent to the nearside door and inserted a long, thin blade screwdriver into a channel at the top of the box to tweak the release catch which then sprung the lid open. They think something in the box, possibly a small hand towel, fouled the catch and stopped the release mechanism from working.
Needless to say they have seen this problem before. Not exactly a design fault but care is clearly needed to make sure the box is not overfilled.

Easiest fix for stuck glovebox door.
Hi all,
The subject in this ancient thread still haunts newbies like me. I saw a fix on YouTube that seems to be overlooked. Once you have wrestled the glovebox open, there’s two black adjustable li’l bumpers in de dash. They’re obviously supposed to prevent the glovebox door from rattling. In my newly acquired car the door was stuck rock solid. Once opened and after some clockwise adjustment (philips screwdriver) of the bumpers it works just fine. (Did some fine tuning with the thumb wheel afterwards, but could have done without that).

My glove box was stuck closed for a couple of years. Found the directions to open it on benzworld. First take the end panel of the dash off. Comes of very easy with a trim tool. Then with a flash light look in side the opening. You will see a white gear about 8 or 9 inches in. It is the adjustment wheel. Push on it a few clicks with a long flat blade screw driver. Then try to open the glove box. Mine took about three clicks. The white wheel is an adjustment for the cable that opens the lock. It is like the adjustment of the brake cables on a bike. Hope this helps.
