SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: When are SL 55's arriving in US? HELP!
Also told him the AMG's wouldn't be here until March. I was under the impression they were already in the states. When will they be showing up at dealerships? Any info would be appreciated.

In answer to your question, it looks like the VIP market is being supplied (for VIP read, "worm who's in the dealer's pocket and wants to make a fast buck selling it on ebay") but as for general availability, who knows.
AMG SL55's are already here in the US. The first official batch arrived last week.

According to "netstar" there are several in the country already.
They started showing up in the last couple of weeks.
We have our first one for our dealership "on the water" as we speak. It is scheduled to be in Baltimore on the 27th and should be here about a week later.
P.S. Yes it is sold. We have about 10 ordered and the production schedule for our allotment looks like one every 2 months. ( next 2 are scheduled for Oct. and Dec. production)
We are a fairly high volume dealership and it seems we are sold out for a year. Your dealer should be able to give you an idea of where you are in the pipeline by now.

What is oversupplying anyway? It is undersupplying, IMHO, that kills the industry. One should be able to buy a car in a reasonable amount of time paying AT MOST retail price.

The supply should be kept tight but not strangled with the US providing a huge sink for any over-production.
Meanwhile, this German site has 28 SL55s available at sensible looking prices. Makes you sick doesn't it?

If that were the case EVERYONE would be driving a Ferrari 550
Why is it that in USA people pay so much?
Here in EU. I've never heard of people paying so much for a car over it's value?
If it does happen im not aware of!
thanx!
to get SL55. ( $200,000 is almost same with what I payed
to get it here with high tax , close to 50 %).
At EU, you can buy it about $ 130,000 . Transportation cost
is not so expensive( even air cargo - less than $3000 I guess).
http://www.auto-salon-singen.de/ is one of good source.
But they know much how to sell and deal .
Their many stocks are not what they have now really. To buy a SL55 at EU , you better ask somebody to visit and do quality check. You need a negotiation( how about reading
"you can negotiate anything" written by Herb Cohen?)
Worrying about maintenance and warranty? If you believe in warranty , visit the site, http:// www.mercedesproblems.com .
You will have a different view. I don't believe the warranty
much.
I have been using MB cars with other ones more than 15 years with poor warranty or no warranty. According to my experience,
if something happens to your car , one of two cases; it can be fixed by any experienced technician or nobody find the answer.
So, to fix it correctly , you better learn what is the problem
and how to fix it. At USA, you can buy MB professional maintenance books. Even more SL 500 ,which has many same parts with SL55 , was already introduced one year ago.
www.alldatadiy.com can be a good source to have basic
knowledge to diagnose( currently they don't have SL55,
but soon they will have SL 55 datas.).
I travelled lots of countries. At many places like Far East Russia , you can see many luxurious cars but there is no official dealer. Nevertheless people fix many problems. To me , SL 55 is a car
men made which has two parties - mechanical and computerized
ones.
Maybe there are some other reasonss at the states why people
are waiting so long ,which I am ignorant of.

The price without Added Value Tax for a typically equipped SL 55 is roughly 200'000 Swiss francs (that includes the most common options). That is about 130'000 US Dollars. Cargo from Switzerland to the United States is no more than 3 thousand dollars. That leaves you with a lot of money for the car to be transformed according to the US laws and for repairs
Furthermore some dealers are willing to swap defective parts under the provision of the Swiss warranty. Obviously the end user would have to pay shipping charges, but that's what air currier are for. This is good for the many electronic black boxes that populate most modern cars.
Well, what I can say, what happened to the famous American business sense? If you really want an SL 55, stop crying and moaning, come to Europe, buy one and save!
You can even get to drive at speeds you will forget about once you get home!
