Damn Imposters

Living here in So. Cal. I see a "Fake" AMG Badged
Benz about once a week on average.
Usually its the younger crowd trying this fraud.
But that guy in NY. He is so easy to spot.

I mean if he really wanted to fake the funk he should have got an SL500 with a sport package and swapped out the wheels for the 65 wheels.. It would not be so easy to spot then..

I never understand why rebadging with a higher model number would impress anyone? If you try to impress other guys, u r likely to get busted because of their knowledge with cars. If you try to impress the girls, many of them can't even tell what make the car is, let alone which model.

Its funny to see guys like this. I've pulled up to a few of these guys in my SL55 and tell them what gives with the tail lights & what name is listed on the engine plaque of their so called "AMG" Then they confess and come clean. Funny stuff!

I just got the clear 07 lenses from the standard SL for my SL 55. I really prefer the clear lenses over the smoked ones, since to me they look... errr... more clean? Don't know.

Now I'm kinda scared that people may think that I badged a standard SL with AMG badges, because some "semi-pros" might identify the clear lenses as "non-AMG".

Didn't do any other body mods to my 55... but I'm just scared that some people might think that "I forgot to upgrade the tail lights to AMG tail lights on a standard SL".

I really consider re-installing the old AMG tail lights with the smoked lenses...

Hell, at least those badges were on a Mercedes!! I saw a Jeep Grand Cherokee in the grocery store parking lot today with an AMG license plate frame on it.

Why would you bother yourselves with making a big deal out of some random guy who badged his 500 a 65? Who cares...was he trying to race you, no. Was he bragging to you, no. He was just some guy who felt the urge to "uprate" the title of his car. Call him out in the middle of the road, you gotta' be kidding me.

So let them be, relax, the burden to point out every single person trying to be or have something else is not on you. Enjoy your fine automobile, and don't be concerned about random individuals on the road.

Many MBs ordered with the MB AMG Sports package come w/ the "AMG" logo .. so don't think everyone w/ a MB w/ an AMG logo bought one off Ebay and put it on there.

Nothing wrong with putting an AMG logo on a full AMG sport package SL....I was thinking about it...lol....but didnt do it after seeing my buddy do it on his CLS and everyone calling it a fake AMG.

But to put SL65 on a non-sport R230 SL....not even paying the $$$$ for the AMG lights and having stock non-AMG/non-custom rims is SO WEAK

Here in LA people would call you out everyday.

I say leave the guy alone. If it makes him happy, so be it. No harm done, right? I don't understand why it should bother you. You know what you got so... Enjoy what you have - and don't worry about what others have.

Yup I'm always quck to call out a poser when they try to fake the funk when they either rebadge their Bimmers ( 325's to M3's) or Mercedes. I especially hate those *******s who have those Chrysler 300c's and say they have a car that's just like a Bentely. That really gets under my skin considering that a Bentely is no where near a Piece of S#$* like that. I just look at people who do that and shake my head and laugh when i'm in my GT.

thats ghey... but in all honesty 90% of the people cant tell the difference between a SL55, Sl500, Sl65 or a SL600.. most just look at as an "SL".

Case in point, I took a 030 package 2006 Sl55 (same color combo as mine)for the weekend. NO ONE knew the difference. In fact I had to tell my girlfriend that it was a totally different car.
Now when you step on the gas the difference is VERY real!
