All of the above
No, I didn't get to drive it.
It might be a while before I get to drive one. Of course it is sold, we have about 2 a month coming. All sold of course. My friend (technician) had to drive it to do the pre-delivery. Tough job!
He said it is a monster in the first three gears. Hopefully I will be able to give you a first hand account one day. Untill then, enjoy the pics. If you have one coming, bless you, I am envious.

There are no words to describe this grace....
I love the signetue on the engine... makes it so unique.
If you have a chance to hear her, just post it..
I notice after seing new pics of the SL55, my 3 months wait gets longer and longer....

NICE!
It looks Great!!!
The pewter (cubanite silver) color is nice! However on the SL55 it looks a bit too luxurious for my taste, especially with the multi-spoke rims. For that much power I want a more...for a lack of a better word... 'meaner' color, plus 'meaner' looking rims (5-spokes). Of course this is just my personal opinion no offense to anyone intended.
BlueSL... interesting observation. 260 or 280 U.S. SL55 so far!?! hmmmm.

The car is an absolute monster. Third gear feals like it would be first on any average car, so basically, it goes. I personally like the wheels since they look like they've come off a CLK DTM car, and as far as color goes, I think either silver or black with the berry red interior is to die for.

Great observation on number of engines built so far. Maybe we can keep track of this because I attended AMG Challenge in June and asked head of AMG product development what the production numbers would be for the final run. He said they had just doubled numbers from 500 - 1000 because of demand.

The same or similar engine is being put in the new S55 AMG and CL55 AMG so I guess there's going to be a lot more than that. Pity the German and Swiss markets are awash with them while the rest of the world is starved.

Torque is not the sole determinant of performance. Ultimately what gets a car going is power to weight ratio not torque and you can compensate for lower torque by using a different gear and higher engine speed.
A high wide flat torque curve is a measure of the drivability of the car, the ability to attain a wide range of speed without changing gear.
The XX600 have the same power as the XX55, higher torque but also higher weight and Mercedes are saying the performance of the two is basically the same.

Another factor..
will be the gearing and gear change program. I believe the speedshift will only be in the AMG version while the 600 will have more smoother (read slower) gearchanges.
I guess if you want speed but without any loss of comfort and no outward overtly obvious identification (read 4 loud exhaust pipes) then you go for the 600 otherwise the 55 AMG.
Of course my choice would be the 55AMG!
