perfectly example of what i'm talking about pricing on another thread. private sellers are grossly misinformed of what ppl are paying for SL's. please stop looking at KBB!

You are just about "dead on" with those resale numbers.

Looks like the front end of your SL got kissed by some
evil parking stopper. Ouch. Bet you let someone else drive it
when it happened !

Well, FWIW EBay completed deal prices fall into a slightly higher range:

Year Miles Deal Price
2003 20,600 $ 65,000
2003 9,824 $ 73,101

2004 19,705 $ 69,995
2004 15,180 $ 78,285
2004 9,800 $ 79,800
2004 8,200 $ 86,000

2005 9,434 $ 89,800
2005 6,500 $ 95,000

That said, $77,000 does seem a bit high for a 12,000 mile '03. Even more so if the bumper is damaged.

Where does the seller say that the bumper of his car is damaged?

And for the pic of blazinginder's car: The plate on the bumper isn't damaged, but distorted with a paint program to make it irrecognizable.

Damn... Look, read, think... THEN post!
Not the other way around...

Guys my asking price is $77, i am willing to arrange somehting if someone is serious. My car is a mercedes certifed and is like brand new. When i was buying my car used i looked at alot of 04 sl55 and still choose this one. The privious owner had 3 sl 55 and was a older guy and never drove this car thats why he sold it. I love this car the reason i am selling this is because i want to get sl65. I bought this car 3 months ago and didnt know that the resale is so bad otherwise i would have bought the sl65 to start of with but at that time i thought this was the right move. My car is not damaged from anywere . I do have a lot of pics if anyone is intreasted please email me at shahzadjumani@hotmail.com

my $.02 coming from a person actually looking for a SL purchase, being "like brand new" is still not going to get an "informed buyer" to purchase a vehicle for more than it's worth. it's a lot like the housing market, it doesn't matter what you "think" your house is worth...it's only worth what someone is willing to pay. right now, it's very few ppl out there looking to pay over $70k for 03's and 04's. to put things in perspective, $77k is around what i'm looking to pay for an 04 and i'm sure i'll be able to get one in the next few months for that.

I didn't claim the bumper was damaged. I used the speculative "if" rather than a definitive conjunction such as "because" or "since."

As someone once wrote, "Look, read, think... THEN post!" Oh, wait. That was your comment.

Its funny when some crappy cars sell for low prices that is what the new market is. Everyone wants a deal and I am not saying this 03 is high or low but in general you end up getting what you pay for. I have gone through a ton of cars and every once in a while you can get a deal but for the most part the cars that are stuck at the high end are much better cars than some dealer that came back from Manhiem with a blow out price. I for one will pay a little more for a mint car that checks out over the lowest priced one around. I looked at SL65's for a while before I bought and prices were all over the place and there were what seemed like steals out there until you checked them out. All I am saying is look at whats available in the car you want no matter what the price and when you find the best one then you may be surprised by the deal you get or at least you get the best car. A few G's here and there aren't going to make a difference.

i agree to a certain extent, but the difference in $75k and $85k is a little bit more than i'm willing to throw away in a depreciating asset...no matter how clean it is. $2k ok...$10k, no thanks.

I agree there is a point where a car can be overpriced and I have no opinion on this 03 because I haven't checked out the market but generally if you pay a few k more for the right car and you keep it in the same condition it should bring more when you sell so the extra money up front should be a wash. As far as a depreciating asset, trust me the SL's are one of the worst but they are fun to have!

hi everyone , my point being is there anyone intrested and i did say i am willing to work on the price. So that means i am willing to take offers if someone wants my car. I have a question there is a dealer in chicago he is willing to give my 71k for my car in order to pick up his 05 sl65 for 130k with 2500miles is that a good deal. Please advise

I dont think its a great deal, he's giving you a little more on your SL55, 71k instead of 60-65k, so basically he's giving you 5-7k extra on the trade in....but on the SL65 he's getting an extra 10-20k....i've seen 2005 SL65's going for 100k-115k with both low and medium miles...depends on your area and what prices you're seeing SL65's sell at, its certainly not a bad deal..worth looking at unless you think you can sell the 55 yourself for around what the dealer's offering...and then go find yourself a 65 for a better price ...otherwise it seems like an alright swap if he brings the price on the 65 down 5-7k

hope it helps, and isnt confusing

The cheapest 65's anywhere are 110 and its because they are Lemon buy backs. 115 might get you a low optioned car with some kind of history.

Uh,... okay.

So why did you mention the bumper then? Shouldn't there be more parts be listed (like e.g. the left mirror, the seatbelt load limiter sensor, the trunk lid etc. etc. etc.) in your speculative statement? Or was "damaged bumper" just meant as a generic term for all kinds of possible damage?

You must really want this "engine" as the cars are both 230 body style....you are really giving up a like new 500 for a like new 65 for $59,000.00???????

Sorry, really makes no sense to me Buy a 600 chipped for 30k less

Here goes the cheapskates!! Everyone wants to steal a car. If you can buy a perfect, unmolested '03 SL55 for 60K, go do it. I bet its got more than a story or two. I get this with the punters that are trying to stretch to get Ferraris....the difference between a no stories car and a tarted up POS can be $30-50K. My cars have always been perfect no story cars that I ask (and get) top dollar for. But there is always a stream of low ballers....that's what the 'end' button is for on your phone.

Here's an ad for an '03. http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail...1&aff=national

fast cars and faster motorcycles ..
most cars are bad investments.. they are tools.. depreciating assets..
.
if i want to know the "market", i check with luxury motors in chicago. the cars cannot be bought for much less than these prices and they sometimes are questionable cars.
.
here's what they have, all 2003:
.
red 13004 miles $71995.

black 18619 miles $68995.

red 26558 miles $66895.

it is hard to beat these prices but anything is possible..

hell of alot of car for not much dough

.................

bottom line: the market determines what objects sell for..
