Question 2008 SL

Hello car fans

Does anyone know of what the motor will be for the 2008 SL AMG, will it be the new 6.3L with turbos ? Or is AMG going to use the same old 5.4SC again!?

Any thoughts

Thanks

Tyler

The new 6.3 engine will not appear in the current R230 SL as the gap between SL63 and SL65 would be hardly worth it.

On a recent visit to AMG in Germany this was confirmed so you will have to wait it out for the R230 SL replacement.

Anyway the SL55 AMG is the best driving SL available and this is also confirmed by AMG as all the test drivers prefer driving the SL55 AMG!

What "Test Drivers" confirmed they liked driving the SL55 better than the other SL's?

They told me the same thing about the SL65......

I hope you're right because I would hate to see a SL63 unless it is turbocharged and that won't happen until the S/CL get their facelift for 2010 which is right when a new SL will appear.

Given that there will be an S63 and a CL63, and no future S55 or CL55, it seems inconsistent for M-B to keep the SL55 beyond the '07 model year. My guess is that there will be an SL63 in '08.

Keep in mind the S and CL are both new cars and it's worth the engineering effort to put the new engine in. The SL is, relatively, old iron now.

As for which is best, SL55 or SL65, I guess they will tell you whatever you want to hear.

Happy Holidays, BlueSL.

Well, MB put the 63 in the E, and it is every bit as old a the SL.

I was at Mercedes-AMG in September 2006 and as I have just bought a brand new SL55 AMG I was keen to get the facts about the 6.3L engine and I was assured by a staff member that the SL was not going to receive the 6.3L in the current R230 model.

mercedes-amg...

i was there in november and was told precisely the same about the 6.3 n/a.

i'd asked about getting some of the new S and CL goodies, such as night-vision and back-up assist, and was told those features probably would come with the new model, as would new propulsion.

Mercedes may have been able to overcome the torque loss in the E/CLS with the new engine/gearing, but they won't be able to do it with the weight of the SL. I'm waiting to see how the new n/a motor does in the S/CL63 that will give you an idea about how it would perform in the SL. The G and SL are going to keep the SC 5.5L V8 as far as I can see. It would just be plain nuts to change them out. If were going to get an SL63 I think it would come along for the 07' facelift. Instead they polished the 5.5L a little more. Ditto for the 07' G55 when it arrives. Look for a new SL for the 2010 model year in the U.S. The R230 may even get another facelift before then.

Hi guys, I am thinking of getting a SL55 used, looks great but my dilemma is this: it has a "buy back" lemon tittle, was bought back from the owner by Mercedes Benz, then fixed and sold at auction to a dealership that now has it for sale. What do YOU think? Is there any way that It can be worth it? I kinda learn everything about the 55's from this phorum so I value your opinion. Thanks for your help. Georgie

I do hope you realize when... that when you buy a car and get a deal with a "flawed title", the reality is.. you really aren't saving any money in the long run and putting yourself more at risk for potential problems and costs and difficulty in even selling it in the future.

Why? because when it comes around to selling the car, you are going to take that hit of the money you saved when you bought it, due to resale value on it.

Not a good idea, especially on a car with so much potential costs in repairs if it has a flawed background.
