Exclamation SL55 Rear end unstable

I have an SL55 with RennTech mods and I have noticed more and more that under WOT the rear end wants to keep wiggling (can't think of another word) to the point where I have to almost fight the steering wheel to keep the car straight. This is not even from a full stop but any time you kick down to a lower gear, as an example today at about 30 mph to up to 100 the rear end felt like it was on ice. Has anyone else had this happen to them and what could it be?

Thanks,

Lou K

It's worth taking a flashlight and poking around back there.

We have lots of wiggle reports over here. (E55 forum)

Most of the time it is a tire issue, but we have had some rear parts fail and give the wiggle.

Look at some of the pics.

Renntech sells some toe links for the sl. That may help ask Adam what he thinks. Look on the sl board there is a post from a few days ago abot a guy getting them on his sl and Adam links some info from renntech about why and how they work.

Lou , first noticed that exact thing with a friend's K4+ E55; was actually a little scary. He has replaced the rear links also and the problem is now solved

Lou,

Hartmut will be coming this Saturday and we will display the toe link kits at the meet. Feel free to come and ask away!

Are you by any chance having that cold weather up in Sacremento? These high performance tires turn to hockey pucks in cold temps, severly reducing traction. I can barely touch my throttle during winter months.

I took my SL65 to Infineon last weekend when air temps in the morning hovered around freezing. They cut the runs down to 1/8 mile because of the cold track. My tires didn't hook until the 330 mark. I have no doubt it was due to the ice cold track temps (and maybe a little too much torque)...

It's funny that you should ask that. Yes we are having the cold weather here. Friday afternoon was fairly mild , low 60's, and I hit the car at WOT on the same stretch where it did the rear end dance earlier in the week and while it lit the ESP triangle the rear did feel stable. I think you are right about the tires. I have PS2's 295x30x19 on the rear and I don't think they like the weather but neither do I.
