cheap sl65 amg owner

I was at one of my gas stations today and a gorgeous black sl65 pulls in. i walked over to check it out and maybe talk to the owner of it. suprisingly the guy put in regular gas in it. now would this cause problems, since this is an TT car, i was thinking that he might have pinging or something

That's just plain ignorance. Turbo's hate anything under 91 octane. You need fuel that burns HOT.

Perhaps it was a car jockey from a dealership filling a customers car? those guys aren't exactly the brightest and may not be aware of the fuel requirements.

nope it was his car, when i said a few things about the 65 motor the guy looked at me like i was talking to him about quantum physics.

at one of our stations we also carry 100, and i can obtain unleaded 104 would there be any repracussions if i put that in my fathers cl65, i would consider putting it in my e63 if nothing happens?

It would be perfectly safe, but you would not notice much improvement without a tune for it. The knock sensor will advance your timing a little, so you would have a small improvement, but not worth the price of the gas. It's a must for cars running 1.3 bar or higher though!

The opposite is also true of the lower octane. The computer will sense it and adjust timing. The reason manufacturers recommend a higher octane is to get that additional performance.

Idiot. Amazing to purchase an automobile as expensive and mechanically complex as an SL65 only to spend a few dollars less at the pump.

...........although I share everyone's view that the guy should not use regular gas in his 65, the truth is that nothing will happen. One of the networks did a show about this about 2 years ago and found that regular gas in luxury cars that require premium gas causes no noticeable problem. A lot of leased cars and luxury rental cars are driven with regular gas by customers who have no ownership interest in these cars. The car you buy from ebay could have been driven with regular gas fo years.

I agree with Ted. The computer can detect the octane, and adjust the mixture accordingly to make the engine work without misfiring, etc. Performance is lost, but thats about it.

I have been told that if you don't fill 91 once every 4 refills, your dealer could test your fuel and not detect the additives that make 91 octane thus voiding your warranty. My neighbor puts regular in his late model MB but on every 4th fill or so, he puts in 91 oct.

i know that, its just when you have an 180,000$ car, you tend to put quality fuel in it, do you put reggular in the g?

Trust me, any fuel you put into it in the U.S., is going to be quality fuel (relatively speaking).

I see very expensive cars in India, and the fuel is India is contaminated like you can't believe, so if those cars continue to function, putting 87 in your Benz isn't gonna do anything.
