Launching

What is the perfect way to launch the SL65 with traction off? I know you can't floor it but wat to you bring the rpm's up to?

Loading up the torque converter on the SL65 does not help you at all. With stock tires, the fastest way to consistently launch the SL65 is with TC on. With it on or off, I would start just above idle and progressively apply the throttle based on wheel spin. My best 60' time on stock tires came with TC off but it was .01 better than what I can get all day long with it on.

With drag radials is another story..... For this you will need dyno mode. The highest I have even been able to leave and still keep traction has been 2200 rpm.

That what I thought because if you rev it up and floor it with out TC on you wont move. The way I did it was, I progressively applied the gas (with TC), I had a little wheelspin but not to much. I guess I will need to buy a 0-60 timer and try that.

What was the 0-60 time you got?
P.S. I put on 305's on the rear tires, so that should help out.
Thanks

Don't know if the 305's will really help on not. What size rim are you running?

No idea on the 0-60 times. My only real data points come from the drag strip and watching 60' times.

For the strip BFG drag radials are the only way to go other than slicks on custom rims.

On the street, progressive throttle is the way to go. For me, the issue seems to be from about 10' from the start to 30'. The first few feet while the turbos are spooling up doesn't seem to be an issue it is when all the torque comes on.

The SL65 is a monster

So for best reaction time and ET I surmise the following: go full throttle at the third amber while deep staged (that's the only way I got a decent reaction time last time at the track). Back off to partial throttle immediately after cutting the light and ease back into it as tire spin allows.

Is this in line with what you're doing?

Thanks,

Scott

That sounds like about it. I don't deep stage but I do like the third yellow!

Half of it anyway....

I typically sit at the lights at about 1000 rpm, just off idle.

Again, this is for street tires.

What times have you run?

I have 20" rims with the tires. When you sit at about 1000 rpm did that give you the best time? I have tried several different ways but I can't know the exact 0-60 of the car (until I get a timer).

Also, how much of a difference does the manual mode make?

Schiz, I took it to the track the weekend before last. Air temps were barely above freezing and Infineon officials decided to only run 1/8 mile because of the ice cold track temps (the week before a newly built vette ate both walls at the 1000' mark with the track as similar temps).

I had a heck of a time hooking up on the cold track and ran a best of 8.1 at 92. I think the 60s were 2.2 or so. I don't have the slips handy.

My Mach 1 runs 8.1 at 85 in the 1/8 and 12.7 at 107 in the 1/4. My dodge runs 6.8 at 101 in the 1/8 and 10.7 at 125 in the 1/4. Both cars hook really well.

Based on the AMG MPH in the 1/8, I'm guessing it should have run right around 12.0 at 120 or so in the 1/4 that day. I'll take it out again when the track is warmer and see what it'll really do...
