New to board, just purchased '05 SL55

Hello All, just purchased a '05 SL55 CPO'd with 17,000 miles, (Black w/grey-black int, options: Panorama; active seats; Bose?? Parktronic; 20" aftermarket wheels). I purchased an extra 2 yr MBZ warranty, (on top of remaining 2 yr 9mo factory), since I think this may be a keeper. First MBZ in 13 yrs. Prev. rides: '03 996 cab; '01 BMW X5; '00 BMW 740i Dinan; '98 Boxster...

Love the raw power of the sl55, along with the more "refined' ride than my 996. Easily the fastest car I've owned. Pic's to come soon.

Some questions, (apologies if covered before):

Are there any XM Radio solutions that use the Command screen out there?

The car doesn't seem to have a phone module. I'd like to get one that works with bluetooth phones. Des this require the phone module plus a bluetooth adapter?

Thanks.

Congrats on the ride. I do not know of any XM solutions, except for the possibility of plugging a tuner into the AUX jack.

You might find an aftermarket bluetooth adapter that willo work, but I have, and I like better, the hard wired phone cradle. I leave the phone in the car at all times. I carry another one to use when I am not in the car.

It's actually the DVD based Command.

Forgot to mention other options: Keylessgo, (already had the valet attendant chase me down twice for the key!), and tire pressure monitor.

DVD-based COMAND?

great, then bluetooth is 365 buck puck at retail, i think. you could slide it into armrest console yourself.

SIRIUS was preset in my car. i couldn't have cared less about subscription radio, so i never tried to activate it. and likewise, i didn't look into XM.

Hi David, to use the puck I assume you need a phone module, correct? And with the puck, do the phone functions come up on the Command screen?

Thanks. Will take pi9cs today.

bluetooth puck...

i might be mistaken, but i believe my COMAND was phone-ready. the hands-free features were an option that had to be purchased separately. the phone functions do display on the COMAND screen. and the only trouble has been the phonebook, which has never downloaded my complete MB motorola phonebook. two phone "docks" were available -- the cradle (a physical connection that continuously charges the phone) and the puck (which is a virtual dock). i have both in the car, which uses only one at a time; i can exchange them freely at will. i hope this information is accurate and useful.

05 SL 55 AMG, 01 Turbusa/8.43 @ 183..1/4 mi.
Congratulations..............

I just recently purchased my '05 and I love the car.........so far, only the RennTech Pulley/ECU mod, but the 2nd Intercooler is here and waiting for me to put it on.........

Mine has 4700 miles on it now.............previous owner was rich/old and has a stable of toys........he traded mine in on an '07......with only 4K miles on mine/his after 19 months of ownership.......

First Pic's

Here are a few poorly taken pic's.

I purchased at MB of Laguna Niguel, only because they took my 996 cab off of me with 7 months remaining on my lease. Surprisingly, they gave me $1K over the buyout price, (7 more payments. + residual). I got the 55 for $93K, (I saw a similar optioned car at Fletcher Motors for $110k). I think this was a reasonable price for a CPO'd '05 car with 33 mos. left on the warranty and 16K miles with above mentioned options. Insurance co. was surprised at the low purchase price...I know that if I looked around harder, I may have found a better deal, but I knew I wasn't going to get someone to buy the 996 for more than the buyout.

mod's

I would consider mod's, but wouldn't want to affect the factory warranty. Is there a thread on this site specific to mod's?

You did great on the deal @ MBLN. 6 Mos ago I got my 2005 for $ 86K. But a few more miles. 22K and a few less goodies/extras. The CPO makes it a great deal. Look forward to seeing you around South County.

Let me know if you get the phone to work. I guess we need to get the puck.

Car looks great. Have fun. The after market wheels look like the SL65 wheel (I believe it's called the Titan). Love to know where the after market ones can be purchased (same as yours-20's).

Wheels

Trying to find out who makes the wheels that the dealer put on the car. Will post when I find out. I did see similar ones from TSW called Bremma, but don't know if that's what's on my car.

VERY nice car!!! I too would take an SL55 over a 996..

If you're looking for rims I'll be glad to cut you 15% off all DPE rims.. Here are some images of DPE rims on various MBZ vehicles..

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions, I'll be glad to help.

Sincerely,

Aaron

Phone info

Went to local dealer today, (not where I purchased car), and found out that I do not have a phone module in the car. So in order to get my car to have hands free and screen options, I need to purchase the phone module, $1100 installed, then buy the bluetooth puck, another $350, and then a specific bluetooth phone, (apparantly the screen sync doesn't work with 'any' bluetooth phone). So, I think I'll be sticking to just having a bluetooth headset for my Cingular Samsung Blackjack phone...
