Sorry - about the size.

500BHP take quite a bit of room

Fantastic - looks like it has German plates. Did you drive back to UK from Bremen? Can you share this experience with us?

Thumbs up

Great color...... Now I can't wait for mine..
Can I ask how many miles it has when you got it?
Because my dealer told me mine have around 120. Becuase of the testing at AMG.

SL55LOva - mine had 2 miles on the clock when I picked it up at the factory. During the collection they do say cars are run on the test track but it is only a few kms long. I suspect the 2 miles on mine were moving between the factory and the collection point. It is a very large site.

SLBoy - The factory collection option was superb. We flew out from Birmingham to Bremen via Amsetrdam, stayed in the 5 Star Park Hotel (£50 extra but superb leisure facilites and we were upgraded to a suite free as booked by Mercedes).

Pretty tired at the collection day - like a kid near christmas had not slept properly for three nights - how sad :o

Taxi collcted us from the Hotel and took us to the factory. Here it takes a 15 minutes to complete the paperwork - explain the insurance documents, plates, etc.

We then had a quick shop (bit dissapointing - lots of clothing but very little of this branded).

Then did the tour which was excellent - even my wife who expected not to be interested found it fascinating. I thought it was great. Seen C class chassis' being built by robots, then onto the best bit (from our unbiased point of view) watching SL's being assembled.

You got to see the painted chassis coming though (every colour combination you can imagine), having all the interior and glass fitted then the engines and wheels. Nice to see the AMG lump, and the difference in brakes, suspension and the huge diffrence in the exhaust system.

After coming out of here you go to collect your motor. There is a four tennis court sized covered area where hand overs take place. Seen my first SL in Jasper in the flesh - my own. Delighted with it. Was shown around the car for about 20 minutes then free to go.

We stopped off near Spa in Belgium (tried to get a lap in but refused by security). German roads were very busy on Friday afternoon - 6 hours to do 300 miles. Running in they recommend 120mph max. Tried to keep to this

Then back via calais (loaded up with 60 bottles of cheap european plonk). 720 miles in total.

Weather helped - roof down most of the way home. An excellent weekend. Would definitely recokmmedn it.

Others - cheers for your compliments.

Happy Paul

Mookie - went for TV, Garage Door Openers, Parktronic and Phone kit.

Was shocked to find no mats included on a car of this price - called the dealer and he is sorting this out FOC. Did'nt even see them as an option on UK cars.

Miles: MB has an option to bring back the mileage to 0 on new cars. They can do it only once, provided the car has less that 500KM on the tacho

That's interesting. My car, when delivered had been reset to 0 and the trip meter was 15 miles more than the total counter until I reset it. Very confusing!

Actually, the PDI on S/SL/CL requires a 25 mile test drive (according to my local dealer). But they can reset the speedometer to zero (or anything) as long as its done less than 150km. (or was it 250km (ie 150miles), I didnt think it was as high as 500km though)

(NB, they cant do that on US vehicles, and only up to 10km (or something like that) on Canada vehicles - different laws)
- The vehicle mileage is also stored in the electronic ignition switch in certain markets, so if you change the speedo it fixes itself !

So I imagine your 2 miles was from PDI to collection centre.

I know mine was reset , because they asked me if I wanted it done (since it had spent a load of time working out what was causing faults to be logged).
(I think it was done at around 100 miles, so the limit must be 250km not 150km)

Cheers.

Richard

Question about the display panel under the speedometer. According to the manual, it shows, as default, the trip and total distance and there is also an option to set the speedo to mph or kph.

In my car, I have a km/hr digital speedo in place of the trip mileage. My speedo reads to 200mph.

Is this some klutsy UK homologation requirement which says you've got to have a km/hr speedo somewhere and they do not allow you to change the speedometer to km/hr because it would then only read to 200 kph?

Are other people's cars working the same way?

Sort of. You can get a MPH readout (instead of the temp readout) in the right hand display, whilst having the analog MPH and digital KMG in the left hand display.

If you switch the dash to KM/H, then you get a analog KMH. digital MPH in the left hand display (didnt check what could be made in the right hand, but I imagine KMH). The miles done so far display switched to km aswell I think

I tried a CLK and E recently, and setting to KM/H still left the analog speedo in MPH. Cant remember what happened to the mileometer.

It is very possible that my cluster is programmed differently (since it was replaced), and is programmed as "rest of world" , not as "UK" (two seperate settins)- something your dealer can very easily do.(but make sure he doesnt accidentally disable the interior motion detectors) ..

Just checked. As you switch the setting in the setup menu, the mp/h km/h on the analog dial switches over. In Km/h mode, the right hand display shows km/h

Not on mine it doesn't - the option doesn't even exist in the menu. Looks like you benefitted after all from having new electronics fitted.

In the instrument cluster setup menu,. theres a km/h -> mp/h setting - are you saying you dont have it ??

Next time its at the dealer, tell them to set the cluster to "rest of world", then ensure the interior motion detectors are still configured, and it will appear !

Cheers

Thats not bad, I had a whole list - some werent really issues :-)

Squeaky brakes, fixed by cleaning
A bit of PDI damage (remember car took a while to fix)
- tiny scratch on door trim panel - replaced
- a couple of marks on back of passenger seat - to be fixed
- damaged wheel (replaced, I have old one for refurb)
Seat doesnt move back when engine turned off (because its already far back, user error)
A variable pitch squeal from rear when cold, yet to be found
