sl 55 vs 997S
Hey everyone, just wondering what the outcome if this run would be. I messed around with a sl55 up to like 140 in my 997S and it seemed like a pretty good run.
What do you guys think would happen in a 1/4 mile race, a 1st gear roll, and a 3rd gear roll.

From a standing start, it will be cose. SL55 will probably win, but not by much. A well driven 997S is capable of mid 12's in the 1/4 with very low 4's to 60. However SL55 will destroy it from a 50mph+ roll, I'm thinking at least 2-3 cars or possibly more.

From an owner of a 911 S, it will smoke a SL55 to 60mph easily. 0-60mph tested as low as 3.9secs. I don't think a SL55 can touch that. On the freeway roll thats a different story I think the SL55 will win that type of race.

think close, but nod to you. have run more than a few 997 S's in my 55/RENN-1, it's not even close.

I honestly think it would be a good race. I went to the 1/4 track my 997S for the first time and with 6-7k miles on it and managed to pull off a 12.7 @111 mph with a ****ty 2.1 60 and granny shifting.
Im willing to bet that it will be a good run, even on the highway. I am lightly modded. I am willing to run anyone who is down that is from the so cal area.
Look at it this way. 997S around 800-1000 pounds lighter, manual, and has more aggresive gearing. So I think it wouldnt be even close to a smoke.
how much hp is a sl55 putting down to the wheels?

Ive actually ran my freinds e55 many times. He is not that skilled of a driver (dont know how much skills you need for an auto). From a launch I took him and had the lead untill we shut off (around 4th). 1st gear roll i had the lead and he started to pass me at the end of 3rd beg of 4th. We did 2 2nd gear rolls and he jsut plays catch up each time ( I think he doesnt put it in tip or something becuase i just rocket away at the 3rd honk. With all this said, I know the 55's are more powerfull car but it def wont smoke a 997S, its to the point where driver would make a diff and things like "not putting it in tip" will be the deciding factor if they will win or not.

okay
I love the 997S I almost got one ... but I don't see how an SL55 is even close to a 997S. Maybe all that extra weight does make that BIG of a difference.
At least I know not to even bother racing a SL55 ...

Yes I'm talking about a 997 S, I have had two of them and love them to death. I just got my SL55 so I know what I'm talking about. The 911 S has excellent traction, gearing and low weight to give it excellent out the hole acceleration and the magazines have proven this. I'm not saying the 911 S is faster at the top end, because I don't think so. But from 0-60 or maybe even the 1/4 mile it maybe quicker. Catch a 911 S on the freeway and you probably have a good chance at beating one on the roll.

Don't get me wrong, I respect the 997S, on a track it would be a different story, but on the freeway? Not a chance.

E55k walk me at freeway speeds, I recently walked a heavier CL55k 03-up on the frwy, I've also easily beaten (3) 997 4 S models on the freeway, they don't have the torque at freeway speeds to touch a SL55, E55, etc...0-60 yes 997 very competitive.
This was in my C6 Vette, I know it's not an SL55k but considering comparo's being tossed around in here w/E55k's etc, my input is viable.

From a roll 60ish guy didn't have a chance I had to repeatedly lift the throttle for fear of hitting his rear bumper (we had only one lane open, I
forced him to run) the other two got walked badly same frwy racing/rolls but multi-open lanes 60-75 punch it instantly pulled 2- cars then very fast walk to 100+ ending 6-7 lengths before lifting, there deadly twisty and 0-60 but torque is severly lacking for freeway damage.
