Performance issue HELP!!!

I have a 2004 sl55 amg. I am having some weird issue.

The first time i floor it the car takes off like a rocket. If i slow down and floor it again the car has no power and will not for the next 3 minutes. I can totally come to a stop and it will still act the same (DEAD) .

3 minutes later i will be able to floor it with regular power once and then after that back to no power again.

Alternativley if i pull off the road turn off the car and restart it power is instantly available again.

I took it to the dealer nothing shows up on the computer. I took a mechanic for a drive and showed him what happens and he didnt know what the problem was.

Has anyone had the same problem ?? If so what was the solution.

If the mechanic feels the problem then just leave it at the dealership.... warranty will cover it...

He was a real jerk actually, didnt seem to really care.

He just told me to drive it around for a while and bring it back in a month and maybe something will show on the comp.

Please check for the intercooler pump. When the pump fails, it will not show on the STAR machine. (no codes) Just inform your service advisor that your intercooler pump has failed because the power is consistently cutting off.

It won't throw a code and the mechanic is a clown.

As often as the intercooler pump fails on the 55K engines, you'd think these guys could diagnose it over the phone ... or internet as most of us can.

If it turns out to be something else, I'll apologize to the mechanic.

You can bet it's the intercooler pump ... and it won't throw a code.

Do a search on intercooler pump and you will find 30 people with the same symptoms.

Ask to have the shop foreman work with you or change dealerships.

Wow, Thanks for the help!

You guys are good.

If its the intercooler pump and its a (temp. thing) why when i turn the car off does it instantly work. Is it that it takes time for it to sense the temp ?

I called my advisor at the dealer and told him i did some research and found that its most likely the "intercooler pump"

He didnt want to hear what i was saying and basically (called me an idiot) "oh that would definitely show up on the comp, we know what were doing ..."

I have purchased/serviced cars from bmw, infinity, lexus ... and this is my first Mercedes service appointment. I must say these guys are the most arrogant not willing to help dealer i have ever dealt with.

I think im going to try a neighboring city's dealership.

My stock pump is sitting on the shelf in the garage and has 4500 miles on it and works just fine (for a "stock" pump)........if he wants it, he can have it for free.............just pay shipping. I ain't kiddin'.

Same problem here. Didn't experience it until last night. It did it in about a 30 min time frame on two runs.

An hour later -- full power, all the time. Very weird.

Will getting MB service to replace the intercooler pump solve the problem or are they going to put in a new intercooler pump (but same model) with the same problem you think?

Some times you'll run across a dealership with no-it-alls...just brush it off and when they do a test on your IC pump and it's the cause, then you can just grin and say "I told you so"...luckily for me, we have a very friendly dealership who are up to the date with mods being done to the cars, so they have a general idea with something acts up...good luck with your situation and hope it gets resolved quickly.
