SL55 Performance Upgrades - Recommendations?
I'm about to get work done on my SL55. I am about 90% sure I'm going to go with RennTech and get their "Package 5" to bump it up to 603 HP and 626 TQ (http://www.renntechmercedes.com/R230_SL.html).
Is there anything I know before I do this? Has anyone else had this done or anything similar done by RennTech as yet? I have to admit I'm a little hesitant to send my car away but I've been wanting to do this for several months now.

Jean,
My advise is before you get any work done on the SL 55, you should have pre dyno numbers.
IMHO, you get better performance figures by purchasing different parts from different vendors. This would save you couple of bucks which can be used in purchasing new wheels/tires.
Also, please check on the E55 section, those guys have installed a wide range of products to make their car perform better.![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Anyways, good luck and feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

The Renntech V is a very nice package, but it is also $15K. We may have a solution that will get you most of the way there for a fraction of the cost. Feel free to PM me if you want more details, or have questions.

2007 Väth SL65 AMG. 2007 BMW Alpina B5s. 2007 BMW M6.
In that case, do you have any experiences with the 600TT?
Because, I would like to know which is the best way to end the problems with the heat after an ECU upgrade?
Larger I/C water pump?
Bigger I/C? And is the 55 I/C bigger?
Bigger water tank for the I/C?
Or does it cost more than it tastes..? Because some say, that even the Renntech products aren't satisfying...

Mainly the SL55 and E55
Look at Brabus, if you've got any friends with a Brabus ride take it for a spin. Also check out Hennessey Motorsports. They started with Vipers but now do a slue of other makes and models, including the SL R230.

Can I ask you, are you in to tuning and stuff?

When are you getting alot of heat soak? Is it all the time, or only after multiple 'spirited runs'?

Hennessey is a crook. I've had friends that got ripped off by him. Any viper forum will have a ton of Hennessey bashing.

Vadim:
There is so much controversy over the Renntech ECU/TCU upgrade. I know you are a dealer however, how much more performance can I really expect with this upgrade to my CL600 (2006 model year)?

RENNtech is solid, so is Kleemann.
Also check out our forum-grown stuff. The things vrus is doing with this 5.5L s/ced engine + evosport power packages. Incredible stuff.
All you really need to do to this car is a ECU + Pulley.

I agree that the best bang for the buck on the 55 is an ECU/pulley combination. If you take a look at the performance gains that we have acheived (there is a dyno posted on a thread). We are 80+hp/torque with that set up.
As far as the 600s go...I haven't had any complaints from clients. Our gains are great, and we maintain great drivabilty.
PM any questions or go to our site and email directly.

Why still spend money on SL55 when new SL63 is coming next year...??

The reason for tuning the 55K engine is because it is a great powerplant. There is also alot more upside potential with it, because it is supercharged vs the 63, which is normally aspirated.
The work that we do gives solid performance boosts and keeps costs on the affordable side.

I am a former viper owner and forum member, he is a crook and a real jerk, probably moved on to do mercedes because he dosen't get the big buck viper work anymore, his prices on his site are double compared to other top viper tuner i:e UGR, Heffener Motor sport, stay far away from Hennessey, do a search at BBB for Texas you will see many complaints![EEK!](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/eek.gif)
